I planted a small plot of pearl millet this year, I’m thinking about adding a second plot of brown top

I planted a plot last year and it didn't do well with the cows breaking into it. This seasons crop was planted in October when I planted a food plot for deer. Its looking pretty good.

I'm gonna plant Browntop Millet in mid-June. It will be my backup if the deer annihilate my peredoviks. I planted a good crop of it a few years ago along peredoviks and it was fantastic. Doves everywhere opening day.

Where do you get the seeds? If you plant mid June they will be ready by 9/1?

Use the Turner Seed Co. spring dove mix. The browntop millet and foxtail millet are the Vegas favorites. If seeded now, they'll seed out prior to dove season.

So my Dove plot is still coming along , sunflowers looked nice then they died out I'm guessing weeds or the other plants like milo , sesame seed and sorghum drowned them out!! So my question is the experts when do I cut the plot down for Dove season!

If you have a clean understory that the birds can access then start mowing strips about two weeks before you plan on hunting it. If you have a ton of grass and weeds that prevent the soil from being exposed then spray it now so it will have time to die and dry. Doves like a clean soil bed to eat on.

My peredoviks got destroyed by deer in the first month....so plan B was the millet. I ended it spreading german foxtail millet but it didn't get good germination. Since I'm overrun with acres and acres of wooly croton (goatweed, doveweed) I sprayed some strips of it with Gly. This stuff is never ready by Sept 1 so I'm helping it along by killing it a month ahead.

I have a question about planting a crop to bring in doves for hunting. Isn't this hunting over a baited field?

I would spray first and let it dry down for a week to 10 days and then mow it. If you already have a relatively clean understory then just mow.
