These conversations were not needed prior to us being bombarded with highly processed foods. Ask anyone who has. It that crap out and got on a regular exercise schedule and how it works for them.. minus the meds.
Might be your truth but not everyone's. I'm diabetic and have never been over weight. 6ft at 186, so there.

Diabetes can be prevented and reversed by sugar intake. Diet is the key. I honestly hope the best for people and do not intend to hurt anyone feelings. Our parents fed us crap growing up and were unaware. We can change this!

Thank you doctor, but wrong. Once you are diabetic you are always diabetic. Best you can do is control it.

That's type 1 diabetes. Type 2 is caused by too much sugar, carbs and processed foods, and it's cured by cutting that stuff out of your diet. Most diabetics are type 2. But type 1 is an autoimmune condition. Completely different. Sounds like you're type 1. He was talking about type 2.

For those talking about "curing" or "reversing" your diabetes that simply is not how it works. Once diagnosed as diabetic you will always be diabetic. Now it is possible to be in remission & have it under control without medication, but you are technically still diabetic.

How can you technically be diabetic when you're a1c is under 6.5? I had a 6.9 a1c last July, but with a change in diet, limited carbs and sugar intake, my a1c is now 5 7. So technically, I am not a diabetic if you go by ADA guidelines.

Diabetes is more than a number. It is a malfunction in the body. Below is from the Mayo Clinic

I have been controlling mine for at least 4 years now living Keto lifestyle, no meds in that 4 years.

Type 2 diabetes is a condition that happens because of a problem in the way the body regulates and uses sugar as a fuel. That sugar also is called glucose. This long-term condition results in too much sugar circulating in the blood. Eventually, high blood sugar levels can lead to disorders of the circulatory, nervous and immune systems.

In type 2 diabetes, there are primarily two problems. The pancreas does not produce enough insulin — a hormone that regulates the movement of sugar into the cells. And cells respond poorly to insulin and take in less sugar.

Type 2 diabetes used to be known as adult-onset diabetes, but both type 1 and type 2 diabetes can begin during childhood and adulthood. Type 2 is more common in older adults. But the increase in the number of children with obesity has led to more cases of type 2 diabetes in younger people.

There's no cure for type 2 diabetes. Losing weight, eating well and exercising can help manage the disease. If diet and exercise aren't enough to control blood sugar, diabetes medications or insulin therapy may be recommended.

Type 2, It’s bad bad stuff.

Prediabetes is a warning sign that your body's insulin levels are rising. Yale Medicine experts discuss how to reverse it before developing type 2 diabetes.

Physical activity and losing weight if you need to may help your body respond better to insulin. Taking small steps, such as eating healthier foods and moving more to lose weight, can help reverse insulin resistance and prevent or delay type 2 diabetes in people with prediabetes.

This escalated quickly. It never realized we had so many superfood eating athletes on here! For the folks saying get off your butt, I am by no means lazy. Read back through the thread, I exercise daily and have for a long time. My wife is also 180 hours of clinical time away from being a NP with years of nursing experience. She has encouraged me through this. I was also a college athlete and @6’6” and 300# when I started I wasn’t exactly a fat slob. I would love for some of you to say the things you do on here sitting around a real campfire.

pond popper, if I remember correctly you said you were severely overweight, how is your journey coming?

So much misinformation and misunderstanding around here about diabetes.
Yes, type I diabetes is not curable but by proper nutrition the medication can be reduced in most cases. That’s a well documented fact.
Another well documented fact is that through proper nutrition type II diabetes can be reversed and you can return to normal a1c levels. Does that mean it’s cured? No, it’s just reverse and if you were to go back to eating a standard American diet then sure, you’d be a full blown diabetic again. I also believe that if you are in the category of being “pre diabetic” you are a diabetic that just isn’t on medication yet.
The whole point of the matter is that it is all controlled by diet. A ketogenic diet and in my case carnivore diet can and will help to control or even reverse diabetes depending on which type it is. It has been proven time after time and the medical industry is slowly waking up to this fact but they are having a hard time admitting that they were wrong all of this time and they are being pressured by the pharmaceutical industry to keep issuing the “Standard of Care” protocol that keeps people dependent on their drugs. That’s pretty much standard for all health issues.
Hey, believe what you want. Eat how you want. Take whatever drugs that you want. If if makes life easier and more enjoyable then go ahead and enjoy yourself just be aware that there are better ways out there to handle this.
Y'all have a great and blessed day.

Indeed, and I didn't try to go back and read the whole thread. When we tell Drs. or friends that are Drs. we live Keto we get the, "yeh, but" from them.

What motivates me most is not losing any more feeling in my feet and not having my eyesight affected. It has also corrected my cholesterol and other bloodwork things.
