? on Solo stoves or something similar.

I am needing an outdoor stove, such as the Solo Stove or something similar. Has anyone bought one and if so what are your suggestions on brand, are they smokless and are they worth it?

I’ve had a solo for two yrs! We like it but it will eat some wood. As far as smokeless , it depends on the wood from what I’ve seen. You have to keep the wood below the top vents to keep the smoke at a minimum. Once you get a good bed of coals it cuts down the smoke even more. You have to stay fairly close to them because the heat goes straight up. I would definitely purchase one again .

I have a Solo and we love it. As said above it will eat some wood. I burn mesquite and pecan and once it heats up smoke is pretty non existent. We did bring home some sort of wood from the ski condo from Christmas. My wife made me. Lol. Said we bought that, so I told my boys load it up. We tried to burn that stuff and wow it smoked the whole time and the soot that fell from the sky. Lol. Anyway yes, also depends on the wood.

I got a solo stove from work. Like said above use good wood and keep the wood below the top ring and it is very little smoke. I get the fire going and keep adding wood a little at a time. Very little smoke. I have had it under an awning and was not bothered by smoke

I got a solo last year. The others are spot on. Burns hot. Don’t even think about of the crappy bag you get at a grocery store. One bag goes quick.

I love that it is easily portable. I have it on my patio travertine and spent leave a mark. Burning so hot leaves as minimal cleanup as possible. Cleanup is easy. I’m interested in the heat deflector since not a lot of heat gets to the sides.

If you aren’t in a hurry, stop by your Home Depots and Lowe’s the next few months. I got a got good deal on the solo but after saw several of the other brands deeply discounted in march-ish.

Depending on how cool or cold it is outside I basically do the same but if it’s gutencold I stoke it up full

How tall is your awning? Is it fully covered. Mine peaks at about 10 feet and I worry just a little when it shoots up embers which isn’t too often.

We got one Christmas of '22. Was disappointed with heat output until we got the deflector. That was a big game changer. We sometimes have to move the glider back a bit because we will get too warm.

This is what I did. I have a duraflame brand I bought for about $100-$150 and it works just as good as a solostove. I also don’t feel bad if it gets tossed around when not in use. I wish it were a little bigger but it was a steal at the price

Thanks for the heads up on the heat deflector! It will be a game changer for sure

I have one my wife bought me for my birthday. We love it and it has the deflector. She recently bought me the pellet insert and they burn great also. The little one loves the colored flame packs.

It is ten foot on the back porch but we also used it under a camper roll out awning and had no problem. The heat goes up about 5 to 6 feet

They are a great way to get rid of old cedar fence posts. Click image for larger version

We have the SS Bonfire in our screened porch and love it. I did purchase the heat shield/deflector and it makes a huge difference on the comfort level sitting around it. When you first light it up it smokes like any other fire pit. After it warms up and the fire is hot the smoke is almost nonexistent.
