I am needing an outdoor stove, such as the Solo Stove or something similar. Has anyone bought one and if so what are your suggestions on brand, are they smokless and are they worth it?

I’ve had a solo for two yrs! We like it but it will eat some wood. As far as smokeless , it depends on the wood from what I’ve seen. You have to keep the wood below the top vents to keep the smoke at a minimum. Once you get a good bed of coals it cuts down the smoke even more. You have to stay fairly close to them because the heat goes straight up. I would definitely purchase one again .

I have a Solo and we love it. As said above it will eat some wood. I burn mesquite and pecan and once it heats up smoke is pretty non existent. We did bring home some sort of wood from the ski condo from Christmas. My wife made me. Lol. Said we bought that, so I told my boys load it up. We tried to burn that stuff and wow it smoked the whole time and the soot that fell from the sky. Lol. Anyway yes, also depends on the wood.

I got a solo last year. The others are spot on. Burns hot. Don’t even think about of the crappy bag you get at a grocery store. One bag goes quick.
I love that it is easily portable. I have it on my patio travertine and spent leave a mark. Burning so hot leaves as minimal cleanup as possible. Cleanup is easy. I’m interested in the heat deflector since not a lot of heat gets to the sides.
If you aren’t in a hurry, stop by your Home Depots and Lowe’s the next few months. I got a got good deal on the solo but after saw several of the other brands deeply discounted in march-ish.

We have the SS Bonfire in our screened porch and love it. I did purchase the heat shield/deflector and it makes a huge difference on the comfort level sitting around it. When you first light it up it smokes like any other fire pit. After it warms up and the fire is hot the smoke is almost nonexistent.
