    How Long is Too Long?

In spite of the old adage about fish and guests stinking after three days, how long do you tolerate family guests in your home?

Our house has had a revolving door on it since Thanksgiving with lots of family (mostly mine) coming to stay with us for one reason or another. My husband—whose home is his sanctuary—finally blew a gasket today and told me he doesn’t want to see any of them again for a long, long time. Ouch!

Do any of the rest of you suffer from “family overload” during the holidays and, if so, how do you handle it?

Sounds like you should have been mixing stronger drinks given the situation. I'm really surprised at your behavior.

Reason # 2 to have a deer lease. Place to retreat to when needed.

I see "that" section of family pretty at Thanksgiving and Christmas. I'm good with that.

The rest of what is really Fam, i see weekly.

You might have some leverage now to get that grapple that you want.

2 days max, most 1 day. I tell them there are hotels down the street

close family? Stay one night. NOT close family? share a meal and then "goodbye" I love all of my huge family but I am not a B&B

3-4 Days nights per holiday weekend for us max usually. We live 8 hours apart from the majority of our family so we enjoy our time together. They house us and we house them so its a tradeoff. However, after a couple of days those of us with leases are ready to head to the leases. It indirectly saves us all from overstaying. I've never had a one month ordeal like you so I can only say after 3-4 days it depends.

A few days is about all I can handle. Of pretty much anyone. Luckily, while I try to be nice, Im not known for being real personable, so my mom is the only one that comes and stays more than a few days at a time, mostly because she has to love me and I have to honor her.

Its seems to me that he is quite patient considering various people have been there like 5 weeks.

Fortunately our families - both immediate and extended - have always been on pretty much the same page. When visiting, two nights is the max. We’ve never gotten the call/text “ how bout’ we spend a week at your house?”
