When did cold fronts become “polar vortex” in the media?
Forecast says turning cold Saturday, here. Highs in the teens lows around or below zero Sunday through Tuesday. Cold but it’s January so no big deal IMO.
Bad thing is - looks like with overnight lows in singles and teens & highs struggling to get above freezing for a week after that first snap, we’ll be froze out of the end of duck season!!!
Right around the same time they decided to start naming winter storms like hurricanes.
Have to create the drama and all, doesn’t pull attention otherwise.
The naming of winter storms is total cringe…. Unlike a hurricane which has defined criteria to become a named storm, these winter storms don’t. They just sorta all get named.
regarding the polar vortex, it’s always existed and actually always exists. We actually just get a “fragment” of the polar vortex when it’s normal rotation is disrupted
