    Hot water in shower issue...

Turning on the hot water in the shower it only gets luke warm at best, even when turned all the way over. I have a gas water heater and the water is HOT everywhere else in the house. The hot water works just fine in the sink in the same bathroom. I think the diverter is bad, but not certain and am here looking for advice. Thanks!

Is your water hard? Might have clogged the hot side up in the valve not allowing enough flow.

Mixing valve might be messed up. You could also try just turning up the heating element on your water heater. I had the same problem in my house but it was because most of my plumbing was in the attic. The lines stayed cold and when the water had to travel all the way across the house it would cool down the hot water.

Is the cold side warm/hot too? That would be a sure sign.

At least you're getting hot water to that end of the house, in that the sink has hot water.

Do you have an access panel that allows you to check the pipes directly coming in?

It used to be when the previous owners had it. they had a water softener, but I don't think it was working. I had it replaced.

No, the cold side is cold. There's no access panel that I am aware of.

Is the valve separate or do you have one control for hot and cold? If one I would change cartridge and see if that resolves the issue.

Are you new to the house? Some bath/showers have an adjustable scald protection that can be adjusted. Sometimes it’s in a closet close by behind a panel

Is this only happening with the showerhead, or at the tub faucet as well?

If no tub faucet, have you tried removing showerhead to isolate down to valve?

It happens with both the shower head and the tub faucet. I think I'm going to change out the cartridge and see if that fixes the issue.

Most single handle valves have a anti-scald gear inside the handle trim. Usually takes a small allen wrench to remove the handle which will access the gear. You pull the gear out and turn it allowing it to mix more hot water.

OK, thanks. I'll look at that this evening when I get home.

That’s what mine needed, plumbers didn’t set it right in my new house.
