For everyone that shoots 55-60 # what broadheads work best for you? Are there any mechanicals that are deadly at 55-60#?
I've been shooting the Grim Reaper 125 Gr Micro Hybrid 1-3/8 at deer/pigs and 125 Grain Razorcut 1-3/4" at turkeys with great success. 60 lbs from a Mathews Traverse
I was shooting 60 until about an hour ago. I tried drawing today in my box blind and it took all I had to get it done. I backed off 3/4 turn on both limbs on my Mathew switchback. Maybe those 70 year old shoulders have caught up to me.
Went for 70 to 60 lbs bow about 7 years ago. Was shooting around 65 then went to 60 with new bow. After some health problems this pass year had to back it down to about 54. Hoping can work back to 60, but not really necessary. I also increased my arrow weight and went to a 125 broadhead. shooting a G5 striker.
I had the same thing happen to me but it was with a big 10 point. Really cold day and right at dark a big 10 walked in. I couldn't get the bow drawn. Did a few pushups in the floor of the blind and tried again. Nope. Dropped poundage to low 60s and hasn't happened again. Although now I have Little Buddy heaters so I don't get as cold as I used to.
I can now report the result of the 10 lb drop. Drawing on this buck felt like drawing a kid's bow. Holding back was 100% relaxed. Arrow smacked where I aimed and the Slick Trick did it's job. 40 yard recovery with a stand-up, Helen Keller blood trail. Two thumbs up!
Started archery with a 72# longbow at the age of 14... yes you read that correctly lol. When I moved to compound-land I shot 60# for several years, then jumped to 70#, then tried 77# for year. Leveled off around 70# for last decade or so, and I like easy pulling 70, nothing will make me put a bow back on the rack faster than a draw that I don't like. Different is ok, making it feel heavier than it is or weight in wrong place is a deal breaker. Draw curves matter when you're talking about comfort, shooting while tired, etc. This year I went with a PSE with EC2 cams, aka as EZ cams. Its a pleasure to shoot at 71#. My Hoyt Z1S I got last year isn't uncomfortable to shoot, but about 90 arrows in... I'm losing enthusiasm during a practice session lol.
