    That’s a lot of deer killed ?

My best friend is having a nervous breakdown after talking to neighboring hunter
neighbors have 20 hunters on 4000 acres and they shot 35 of 40 does their lease boss recommend taking + some bucks
my buddy just said “ what a idiot “ and walked away, I guess that ticked off the LB because he drove over to his house looking for a fight, buddy said his wife the owner of their 2500 ac “ told the guy to leave and sober up!
that a lot of people and deer for the ozona area imo
I guess this is the new norm? Unfortunately

20 hunters on 4,000 acres is too many but killing 40 does on that much property is just getting started in most cases IMO.
Killing 30 or 40 bucks?? Now that would be a huge problem!!!
We could kill 40 doe on a 1000 acres in McCulloch county, leave for 2 weeks, come back and never even know a deer was killed on the place. I swear they air drop in at night!!!

35 does on 4,000 acres doesn’t sound like near enough to me. BUT I don’t know anything about their numbers and situation. Doesn’t sound like your buddy does either and probably should have kept his mouth shut?

        And 20 hunters on 4,000 acres…no thanks.

The great Larry Weishuhn once told me how to
manage the doe population on a big piece of ground in Kinney county. He said “kill every doe you see until you scare yourself into thinking that you have killed every doe on the ranch. At that point you MIGHT have killed 1/2 as many as you need too kill.. Keep shooting”!!

          lol

20 hunters on 4 k is pretty good compared to that same lease being sold and divided into 160 25 acre lots. the land developers are getting crazy out west.

Doesn’t seem like enough to me. We get 80 doe tags and we hunt little over a 1000 acres

That’s only 1 doe per 100 acres which doesn’t even put a dent in the population. Especially in that part of the state.

in Ozona? way too many hunters on 4000 acres seems they should probably do a deer count and see where their numbers are .

It’s Ozona that are always seemed to be a joke when it came to numbers of hunters and acres and deer they take. I bet they run 20,000 goats on it also

We've been part of a group to take 150 spike/does off 5K ranch outside Freer.....

We hunted 20 minutes northwest of Ozona for 15 years. We only had 7 hunters on 5000 acres, 20 hunters on 4000 acres seems excessive. We’d always try to kill 25-30 doe’s every year. It hardly felt like we were scratching the surface in the doe population.

There is a lot to be said for keeping your mouth shut, and minding your own business. Good thing his wife was there to save him.

I had a 1400 acre lease in Runnels Co. for 18 years. We tried to kill 18/20 does a year and most years made that quota. We could never tell a difference.
