Debate: 300 BLK for Hogs up to 200 yards?

    Hey y'all,

I need to settler a debate. Someone I know says he has consistent success killing Hogs with a 300 BLK at 150-175 and up to 200 yards (I don't know what barrel length or ammo type, but I think 16" barrel using 110 grain or 120 grain V-Max ammo)

I call BS on that. I think 300 BLK is NO GOOD past 100 - 120 yards.

Who all here use 300 BLK and have success past 150 yards consistently? and what configuration (barrel length, twist, ammo) do you use if you have consistent success 175 up to 200 yards?

If this is possible I need to build one for hogs past 150 yards.

Please do not suggest other calibers.

    Thanks!

Very possible with super sonic rounds. Wouldn't expect good results with subs but I wouldn't have an issue with the 110s. Mine has a 16 inch barrel

I love me some 110 and 120 VMax ammo, but through my 10.5" barrel I have not been very accurate past 100 yards.

I've been doing some reading and I'm wondering if using a longer barrel, say a 16" barrel with a 1;8 twist using one of the above mentioned ammo will add an extra 75-100 yards to my accuracy?

      I doubt it.

At 200 it should drop probably 6 to 8 Inches

I use a 7.62x39 with a 10.5in barrel, which is very similar ballistics to 300blk and have no problems at 200 and in.

I appreciate your feedback, 7.62x39 is still a stronger round with better ballistics than the 300BLK therefore 200 yards is reachable with more accuracy.

Hopefully I can get some feedback from 300BLK users who hog hunt past 150 yards.

I shot a 300 blk for years as my hog gun and moved to the x39 because of ammo costs. I never really noticed a difference when I switched to the x39. If your debating a new build, it looks like you've made a case to go the x39 route rather than reconfigure a 300 blk. I am in Wylie also and I have an extra 10.5in 7.62x39 barrel if you're interested? The barrel is a Diamondback if I remember correctly. I bought two and only ended up building out one.

What makes you think a .300 BLK is not good past 100-120 yards?

i shoot my .300 BLK SBR past 100 regularly.

Killing and finding are different things. Yes, the BO will kill them but finding them is not likely

when you were shooting 300 BLK what barrel length / twist and ammo were you using? and were you able to kill hogs past 150 yards on a consistent basis?

I built my 300 BLK 10.5" barrel for close range up to 100 yards. The debate is, My buddy claims 300 BLK is accurate and deadly on hogs up to 200 yards.

the question is 175 up to 200 yards., the question is do you hit your target accurately and consistently up to 200 yards?

There are just so many better options! I prefer the Grendel, but there are plenty of others that will outdo the .300 bounce off in the same package, for the same money.

                          Borrow your buddies gun.

I think most people who claim to shoot anything consistently past 175 yards are FOS. I know we have gun gurus and nuts here that can shoot further accurately but if you take 20 random guys that make the claim I'd wager 16 suck.

I have 300 BLK that i use as my primary gun. I shoot up to 100 yards with it and have had good success. Beyond that I don't know. It would drop a ton at 200 yards and in all honesty, I am a bow hunter and not that good of a rifle shot to take a poke at 200 yards. In my opinion, could you - yes. Consistently - sketchy....

If I had to do it all over again I would go 6.8 SPC or .224 Valkyie or even 6.5 Grendel and would believe him if he had one of those calibers, but shooting hogs at 175 yards on a consistent basis I don't belive it.
