Don't know much about him other than the songs he sang. Which I always enjoyed. Mr. Buffett, rest in peace sir. Sad deal.

J. Buffet could write a song. Great writer. If i never hear Margaritaville again it will be fine by me. But you can give me these tunes all day long. I wish i could figure out how to post a tune from YouTube...
Dallas
Last Line
African Friend
A Pirate Looks at 40
Coast of Marseilles
Manana
Lady I Can't Explain
Wonder Why We Ever Go Home
....and yes, i know he didn't write all these songs. But he was a good writer and he could put you in a place....

Saw him at Red Rocks last September. He put on a great show even though I don't really care for most of his music. I wasn't really a fan of his music, but I'm a huge fan of his business prowess.
I saw him in an interview once, he said he only wanted to play bass in a band to meet girls, but he was the only one in the band with good credit. So he became the leader of the band, because he could get stuff at the music store on credit. Leverage is what you make of it.

His business smarts were pretty unreal. Essentially became a Billionaire off of a mentality and idea. Incredible. Sold people on an idea of a lifestyle.
