I just got back from spending a few days in greater Wilbarger County. Among the highlights: I saw a hawk catch a dove under a feeder. One of the most ****** things i've ever seen. I saw a couple of huge owls hunt mice. I saw a one ton plus angus bull jump into a feed pen, while i was in the pen filling feeders to try to get to some Double Down. I was able to usher him out after a few minutes. I went back by the feed pen this morning. Yes, he had knocked the fence down, and destroyed one feeder (luckily not my feeder). Got to do feed pen repairs this morning. I got to see one 4 year old buck lay his ears down and walk sideways and stiff legged toward a 5 year old. The 5 year old obliged and laid his ears down, puffed up, and walked all stiff legged and sideways toward the younger buck. The younger buck immediately said 'NOPE' and bailed out. Pretty funny.

The earth is so green, the temperatures are so mild, the moon is so big, the deer are hardly moving. I have to amuse myself with other things...

Anyway - What do you boys think of this guy?? Post rut. He lost considerable weight.

Found out 2 days ago that one of our landowners aquired another 320 acres that bordered his other land, as well as part of our lease owned by another family. I've been looking across the fence at it for 28 years, and can't wait to get over there and sniff around. I doubt it will hold the magic we'd hope, but new hunting ground don't happen every day, and I'm grateful for it.

Congrats. New scenery is always fun.

I went up today to some misc. lease work. My gosh is it GREEN in Wilbarger County. I predict some large antlers when i put cameras out in a couple of weeks. Whether or not they ever show themselves in hunting season, we'll see. But man o man it is green.
