Yep- for about the last 11 yrs. Sucks but have been used to trying to get by on 3-4 hrs sleep for years. Ever now and then it gets really bad and will get 3-4 hrs in a couple nights... gets dangerous. You start feeling like you're about to lose it! Lol...

I've had some really weird interactions with people from not sleeping for a few days (thought it was a dream). Scary! My wife tells me some stuff i've said... like a different person.

Have been to the Dr about it several times. Medicine does help, but then you are groggy anyway. If i ever stop taking it i wont sleep for 2 or 3 nights. I dont want to take it for the rest of my life...

Dr said i'd grow out of it.... sure wish he wouldve been right, lol...

I have used Ambian for years. There is only one time when I had the bad side effect. When I was at Fort Hood I woke up to find that I had been to the grocery store. I kind of remembered it but thought it was a dream. I drove about 10 miles to Wal-Mart, shopped, then came back, even went through the check point to get on base. I guess I drive good in my sleep.

Oh, yeah, I took it in Afghanistan and one instance made me not take it there anymore. I took a full 10 mg pill and woke up the next morning all rested. I was the only one in my tent that night as the other two were on a mission. I went to Breakfast only to find out that we had an all out attack that night complete will mortors and small arms fire. The good news though is that I was well rested!

I work 6p-6a, so it obviously causes some problems trying to sleep at times... Especially when I try to go to sleep at the same time as my wife. Ambien is a good drug, but the first few times you take it I recommend that you be around a family member (or a good friend) that knows you're taking it, just to make sure you don't decide to go for a walk or drive. The first two times I took it my wife said I was "entertaining". It's technically in the "hallucinogen" drug class, but don't let that scare you away from using it. After the first few times you take it your body should start to adjust to any effects that may happen when you first start it. Don't walk away if it feels funny the first time you try it. The responsible thing to do is to go to bed immediately after you take it (I'll even take it in bed at times). Your body can develop a tolerance, so keep the dose as low as possible as long as possible. I only had "alterations of perception" the first two times I took it, but it wasn't like I was crazy or something. I was able to recognize what was going on, and knew it was time to shut up and go to bed! Now, at worst, the lines on the computer screen look like they're moving around if I take it without being in bed first. It's a great drug, and cheap if you have insurance (mine is < $5 with ins.).

Also, if you're like any of my co-workers and I, caffeine is probably a part of your work day. Just remember that it takes a long time for the caffeine to completely work its way out of your body (it is metabolized at 13% / hr if I remember correctly), even if you don't feel the effects anymore. Try cutting back if you drink a lot of coffee, soda, energy drinks, and/or tea.

Best of luck to you with whatever you decide!

I've always had trouble getting to sleep. Since I was very young. But once I'm asleep I can sleep for 10 hours easily. I can be BEAT tired from a 14 hour shift and it still takes me 2-3 hours in bed to fall asleep.
Ambien doesn't much effect me accept for giving me nutty dreams! Then I feel weird the next day... Now my wife, Ambein makes her loony! Like another person! Neither of us fool with that stuff anymore!

All the time. Worked nights all week. Slept a little today. Went to the range for a while. Went and killed a couple of deer this evening. Felt kind of tired after I got everything cleaned up and ate supper, but could never sleep. Its 4am now and dont need anymore deer meat so Im not gonna deer hunt in the am. Could hook up the boat and load up the dog and go duck hunting in a little bit, but that would only be cool for 30 mins then complete misery. I hammer the trout in the summer at night. But never can sleep it seems. Insomnia sucks. Guess thats why shift work takes 8 yrs or so off of our lives.

I'm on nights and couldn't sleep yesterday, day so I worked on a gun all day. I got to work, been here 11 hrs and will go home and "try" to take a nap but will end up in the shop wrapping up the Sweet 16 build.

Funny story (to me!). The first time i took ambien was a trip! Lol. Was single and had just moved in to a new town/place/job a couple days before. Hadnt slept in a couple days and was at the end of my rope. Dr gave me a prescrption to "try" some ambien. Took it and went to bed. About an hour later i get up to get a drink of water. Go back to the bedroom and open the door/turn on the light at the same time. Out of the corner of my eye, i see my blanket/pillow laying on the bed kindof rolled up from when i rolled out of bed. For some reason (the ambien) i thought someone was laying in my bed. Scared me so bad i stumbled back into the door, kept falling back into the frame, stumbled back across the hallway and broke the door to the laundry room before i finally hit the floor! Lol. I had hit the bedroom door so hard the knob went thru the sheetrock. Hit my head on the doorframe going into the laundry room & my shoulder broke the laundry room door. I remember making a really crazy noise- like a really scared bear or something.... "AAEEHAAA" hahahaha....

I was usually at the office about 6:30. That morning i woke up at 11:00- alarm going off & everything. The boss thought the whole story was pretty hilarious.

I did do this one time. I had been having trouble sleeping a few years ago and my doctor prescribed Ambien for me. I took one the first night but it seemed like I was more tired the next morning then if I hadnt slept. I don't remember dreaming during that time. Anyway later that day I had this strange foggy memory of me going to WalMart in the middle of the night and opening a box of (I know this is crazy) GasX pills and taking 2 out of a package and taking them. I then closed the box back and put the box behind all of the other boxes. I told my wife about it and she just laughed and said I was nuts. I couldnt shake that feeling of what happened at WalMart. It seemed more real then a dream,so I took a little drive there , went to the pharmacy department and pulled out the last box of GasX pills to take a look. Sure enough the box was open with 2 pills missing. I went to the pharmacy desk and asked to speak to a manager. The manager came and I told her what I had done. (I figured it was on video). She invited me to go with her to look at the video and sure enough, there I was at 3:45 am opening the package , taking the pills and putting the box back. She got this real funny look on her face. At the time I didnt know what her reaction was going to be. She said why don't you just take the rest of that box home with you in case you need them. It will save you another late night run. We both had a good laugh at that. I sure was relieved. However that was the last time I ever took an Ambien and will never take one again.

I also sleep with six pillows positioned under my joints. Nothing works! Not even the Vicodin I was prescribed!
Have you had your thyroid and vitamin D levels checked? I have Hashimotos, its an autoimmune disease and I had achy joints and insomnia (plus some other symptoms) I still have some achyness but its much better than it was now that I'm on thyroid meds.

                            only on full moons.
I can never sleep when the moon is full even if I seal off every ray of light my body seems to know. I have to take some Advil PM

Cure it by staying up all night. And the following day.
I have even pulled 36 hours strait and finally my body shuts down and the house could burn down around me and I wouldn't hear it.

If you sit and toss and turn. You also look at the clock and get mad.
The madder you get, the less chance your going to fall asleep too!

May sound crazy, but crazy works for me.

Just be sure not to take Ambien or Lunesta with Alcohol. That ALWAYS increases instances/risk of the side effects (driving, shopping ect)!!!
