Why not Co-Champions? They both have one loss to each other. Either play a 3rd game or call them even, for that matter why not have Tri-champions, doesn't OSU deserve a slice of the title? BCS sux, period. Have a true play off system and this doesn't happen! Can you tell I dislike bama bad!

Really? I was thinking it wouldnt be very entertaining since it was a lopsided affair. I didnt watch the game last night due to a 6 hour time difference (I live overseas) but I plan to watch it in another hour when I get home from work. I didnt think it would be entertaining with no TD's until the final quarter and the losing team not even gaining 100 yards in total offense.

you can say all you want about I don't see team ______ beating Bama but lots of weird things happen WHEN THE GAMES ARE PLAYED. are there ever upsets in the basketball playoffs in March? um, yeah! only once have all four #1 seeds advanced to the final four. that means teams the "experts" with their polls and computers had determined were the best got upset. anybody remember George Mason? it can't happen in fb because the experts decide who plays. LET'S HAVE A REAL PLAYOFF AND LET THE TEAMS DECIDE IT!

Boise State wasn't supposed to beat OU. Ohio State was supposed to destroy Florida. OU got wrecked by USC while Auburn stayed home. Utah beat Bama. ESPN ran a series the week before the Rose Bowl asking if USC was the best team EVER. one problem: they then lost to Texas.

to make it worse, the media that shapes opinion has a vested interest in making sure the leagues they televise get into the BCS bowls. who beats the drum for Boise State? anybody campaign for Okie State? nope. but ESPN - and it's billion dollar contract with the SEC - can't get enough of the SEC. hmm....

it's a mess. we need a real playoff!

They should have a 7 game series like Baseball/Basketball to determine the TRUE champions

I may be the only one, but I don't want a playoff. It'd wind up just like the nfl, with 50% teams making the playoffs. That isu/osu game becomes a non issue, as does tech/ou and baylor/ou. That's what great to me about college football, every game matters. A plus one would do alot. Take the top four teams and have a mini playoff. That would've given osu a shot, and if houston had won out, they would've gotten their shot probably in the #4 spot.

every game matters? that game in november between LSU and Bama didn't matter did it?! Boise's loss to TCU ... that mattered. Okie State losing to Iowa State ... mattered. Houston losing to South Miss... mattered. but no, not every game mattered. if you've got the media on your side you can overcome a loss. in 07 LSU overcame TWO losses. please stop the "every game matters" thing. some game matters. some sure don't.

wouldn't it be terrible if college fb had a playoff like the NFL - no excitement there (like last weekend or this weekend). yup, that NFL thing is just un-watchable! btw, only 12 of the NFL's 32 teams make the playoffs. that's not 50%.

The BCS is not the NCAA. It is not like the NCAA basketball or baseball tournament/championships (and others). The NCAA does not have a tounament to award a national champion in football. J

The mythical national champion used to come from votes from the AP or the UPI (United Press International). The problem with those polls (and they sere just polls) is that they may have had a different result. Some years you had a split "championships" because the two news services would have different results.

The really big problem with it was the bowls being tied to conferences. Like the Southwest Conference champion would play in the Cotton Bowl but they got to choose their opponent. Then the Rose Bowl was locked in to the Pac 10 champion I think against the Big 10 champion. The rankings did not matter as bowl contracts ruled the show. So you might have had the #1 team in the Cotton Bowl playing the #5 team and the #2 team playing the #3 team in the Rose Bowl and the #4 team playing in the Sugar Bowl, etc.

So #1 squeaks by #5 but #2 blows out #3. Who is better, #1 or #2? Then what happens if #5 upsets #1? Do they jump over #2,3 and 4? After all, they just beat the #1 team.

So several conferences got together and decided to have their own show, the BCS. It is the top conferences and Notre Dame. They exclude everyone else from their polls. It is not like basketball or baseball where any Div 1 school can be ranked and play for the national championship.

The BCS ended the bowl contracts from the past and have declared their own championship game. That way they can guarantee the #1 plays the #2 each year because they now have the bowl contracts and set up their own championship game.

It is still a mythical championship since they determine who will play by their own rankings and it is not based on any playoff system. Anyone else can also vote on a national champion. The AP can vote who they like and BCS votes by setting up their game but it is still based on their rankings. Heck, we can start voting a TBH national champion just as legitimately as the AP but somehow I don't think we will get quite as much attention.

So until the NCAA decides to start having a true playoff in football like in other sports it will still be nothing but people's opinions on who is #1 but it is obvious that the BCS rules the roost. That is also why the AP or anyone can vote on who they want since there really is no true NCAA champ other than that set up by several conferences among themselves. As lame as the BCS seems to be at times, it still beats #1 playing #6 and #2 playing #3 and trying to guess who played the best.

                    Clear as mud?

tvc184 is correct. the bowl games, including the BCS games (all of them) are not NCAA sanctioned events. they are nothing more than exhibition games.

you have to remember where bowl games came from ... the desire of the local chamber of commerces to get a bunch of tourist business in the middle of winter. "Hey, let's invite a midwest snow bound team to come out to sunny California at new year's when people have time off and a bunch of their fans will come too!" Voila - the Rose Bowl was born.

but those games were not seen as a quasi-playoff or important to determine who won the NC. as late as 1969 the NC was voted on after the regular season BEFORE the bowl games. can you imagine what would happen now if someone had handed the crystal fb to Les Miles & Co. after they beat Georgia in December?!

that practice ended when teams voted a NC laid an egg in their bowl game. but we still had #1 in the poll playing in one bowl, and #2 somewhere else. if they both won ... who is to say who is best? and so the BCS came into being.

next year we'll have a plus one. we are gradually - very gradually - lurching twoard a full playoff. my grandchildren may someday ask "Grandpa, you mean people accepted letting a bunch of writers VOTE a natl champion instead of settling it on the field?!"

Bama 1, LSU 2, OSU 3, as it should be.

Are you sure you watched the right game. I only could stand about 10 minutes of the game. I guess if you are a bama fan then it was a good game.
