Looks like it was put against a barbed wire fence while he was crawling through. I let my friends borrow my stuff, even my truck or 15-20k 4 wheelers. But I make it known that if it doesnt come back in the same shape, they will pay the shop to put it back that way. If I know they dont have the money in case something happens, they dont use my stuff. Get a new barrel and send him the bill. If he doesnt pay, hes not that good of a friend anyway.

Dang, that got pretty roughed up. A true friend would figure a way to make it right- dip, replace barrel, buy a replacement gun and keep the fugly one....one reason why I don't borrow out anymore-had my shotgun returned rusted shut(wet 500 mossberg put back in a case). That was fun to clean and get back up and running.

A friend of mine loaned me her car for 2 days while my truck was getting maintenance done on it. I drove it from her house to my house and it sat there until my truck got out of the shop. When I brought it back I had carried it to get it detailed, changed the oil, and filled it up with gas. In the unlikely event that I borrow something from someone it will be returened WAY better than I got it.

I used to be the kind of person that would give you the shirt off of my back in a snow storm, until my shirt kept gettin returned torn, dirty and unusuable...
Just one of the things I hate the most is when you let someone borrow something high end, they dont take care of it, returning it in bad condition then want to take the cheap *** road to repair or replace what they destroyed....

rule #1
If borrowed it should be returned in same or better condition. (i prefer to return in better if possible since i did ask to borrow it. My Dad helped beat that into me)
possible to sugar blast off the old coating and then re-finish? I would bet this barrel could be refinished if you wanted a back up later down the line.

Jeff, I have seen that happen to a barrel (but not quite that bad), from the gun barrel resting on, and being pulled back & forth on the edge of a half rolled down truck window. It will take the blue right off of it.....
Sorry to see that......
Hope you get things squared away, and don't lose a friend over the deal......

I don't loan anything to a friend that I am worried about being damaged. If it is an old beat up Remingon 870 that already shows some pretty good battle scars but still is a good shooter I don't mind. If it is a brand new Remington 700 BDL with glossy stock and not a scratch on it, I am not letting some neophyte take it into the brush country to try and shoot his first deer.
If it is something that I have to say, "Please don't get a scratch on this", he won't be taking it out of my sight or even put his hands on it. A 15 year old fishing reel that I am holding in reserve just in case, sure.
