Well at 56 years old and over weight, I need to do more. I lift weights Monday, Wednesday and Friday. I do the tredmill three other days.

Coach... Actually coach, run and help kids, not just blow a whistle.

        I run about 3 miles 3 times a week.

no where near a professional, and will not run if my shins are hurting (struggled with shin splints my whole life).

but what I do know I can get away with. they are a little sore on the third workout of the week, but nothing I dont mind handling. but if I ran one more time the next day or so they would KILL me.

I run 2.5 miles every day, pullups, pushups, situps, and push a dirt loaded steel wheel-barrow up and down the road as fast as I can walk. I live in the boonies so I don't have access to a gym, but you don't need a gym to run and lift weights. You are better off doing body weight / functional strength exercises than spending your time in a gym.

Now that sounds like a workout! I agree with this statement. A few years ago I quit "pushing iron" except for legs. I have found that pushups, pullups and dips keep me better toned than anything I have ever done. I'm way past the point of trying to impress anyone - I just want to stay in good enough shape so I don't hurt myself when working on projects around the house or at the lease. Without doing something regularly, stamina declines quickly after age 50.

I am a coach so running the basketball court and lifting with the kids in powerlifting 5 days a week keeps me in decent shape.

get some of these... they make pushups and dips so much more fun!

I have three sets and use them constantly.

My two boys keep me going between Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Baseball. But, I could still be in better shape. Started a back packing program with oldest boy to prepare for more back packing with Troop. Want to include some weight training or more likely crossfit into program also. I'm fine with my BMI (that's what Scouts looks at for High Adventure stuff) but I would like to convert some body fat to more muscle mass.

Same here. My son is a Webelos and plays baseball, so I lost a lot of weight to be able to show him by example. My BMI still shows me as overweight but my body fat is in the normal/fit range based on measurements.

I used to run all time until I started cycling. That is the way to go. Very relaxing and not as stressful on the knees. I was riding about 70-90 miles a week until December. Going to get back to it here in a week or so.

I run and lift weights 5-6 days a week. I started in Jan of 2011 after not seriously working out in years and dropped 25 pounds without really dieting(can't give up beer and wings ) and have kept it off. I generally will hit the weights on one day then run 3-5 miles the next. Some days I’ll do both if I need some time to just get away from the stresses of life.

I try to keep it interesting and listen to my body.

Lift, run, walk, swim, bike, ect.

My recent discovery - try sprinting/sprints. It may look goofy (if you're as slow as me), but they build the leg/buttocks muscles and make you feel vigorous.
