    Duck leases

Well, this is my first year to duck hunt and i was wondering a few things about duck leases. How much do they normally run? Where can you find them?

Some are high, some are cheap, some are crappy, and some are good. But most good ones are expensive. In my neck of the woods, almost everybody with land leases it out for duck hunting and a lot of it doesn't have birds on it. I actually gave up on duck leases a few years ago. We have a ton of public hunting down here. Average price down here is around $800 and go up from there.

From my limited experience, duck leases are higher than deer leases and harder to judge if it is not season when you are looking (ie just because there is water does not mean there will be ducks)
Try craigslist or the thrifty nickel or I think there is something down in Nac called the Peddler that is the same kind of classifieds as TN. Good luck in your search, most of the folks I know that hunt private for ducks either own (some family owned) or just happened to stumble into a spot

In your search for a deer lease, put duck tanks as a wish list item. It makes the hunting season great as you can change your chase of game with the seasons, migrations, and animal availability. What you would spend for a duck lease you can add to the annual lease property payments and make sure you get on a great, possibly larger acreage, lease with a good variety of game.

Problem with that is, many leases wont allow duck hunting during deer season, if any other hunters are there, or until all members have tagged out

Off topic, but I'm digging the avatar. "I like to do hood rat things with my friends".

Good ones aren't cheap. Cheap ones usually aren't any good. One of the better ones I used to hunt frequently around smith pt was $10,000/4 for 1500 acres.

Sippy , we are hard pressed to find a good duck lease in east texas. I duck hunt on my deer lease in carthage but i have yet to have a consistant hunt. I can usually get 3-5 ducks on most hunts.

it's all about location, location, location AND who you know

here in SW LA , most blinds run $2,000 ~ $5,000 and are sunken along the banks of flooded rice fields

Waaay too much public land on the upper coast to pay for a lease. If you get up this way Ive got several places I could show you. Save your money on a lease and put together a shallow running duck boat. Thats just my thoughts.

I'm still finding public places near my house. Find a local lake and get a map. Then drive around to the places where you think you can hunt.

Tons of public land. Just got to put in some leg work and miles on your vehicle.

One of the best things about duck hunting is the availability of public land. Do your home work on local lakes or go out with a guide a couple of times. Most duck hunts down here on the coast start around $85 to $250 dollars a person. If you can make a week day hunt , you might be the only one out. I was very surprised when I found out how much a good duck lease costs and have been hunting on some good duck leases and found that I do just as good on public waters.

                          Good Luck

Find something along the rivers up your way or go the public land route. It is a bad addiction! Lease we had a few years ago had a pond on each end of the lease. North pond was great for all ducks in the morning and the south pond was our evening time wood duck place. Man I miss that place.

I'm looking at trying to find a local lease too. Went out to one this last week and this guy wanted 500/month for the piece of crud. I'm still looking....
