The problem here is the victim was in condition white. If you live in condition yellow you would be more aware of your surroundings and better prepared not to be in that situation. So if your aware at all times the BG probably finds someone else. The BG got the jump on him, with a gun to his head. Just give the money. If he tells you to get in the car, thats a different story.

I guess maybe I am a little more generous than many on here. Theft of property, unless I feel my life is in danger, is not worth a human life. Insurance can handle the property. Now, if I, or someone else, is in danger then yes I would shoot. But, it would be a last option for me.
I carry for one reason, to protect life. My "stuff" can be replaced with other "stuff.". Carry little cash, just use credit cards.
In the above scenario, if he has the drop on me he gets the cash. I would not shoot a fleeing man.

Every situation is different and Im not wanting to live the rest of my life knowing I killed someone over a few hundred bucks regardless of the situation in a typical grab and run type of scenerio.

I have been in this situation before.
After the robber took off I pulled my weapon and lined up the sights right between his shoulder blades. I did not pull the trigger. There were houses on the other side of him and the distance was farther than I felt comfortable shooting. I just couldn't guarantee that I wouldn't hit one of the houses instead. The recovery of sixty bucks just wasn't worth the chance of injuring a bystander.

Almost the same story as above, except I had an XD40 in my belt, and I'm not sure he even knew how to use the little .22 he was pointing at me. I gave him the $40, and another chance at life. In my opinion, money isn't worth killing somebody. He didn't want to kill me, he just wanted to get my money, and probably go get high for a few hours. I have killed before, in combat, men who deserved to be killed, and I have no regrets whatsoever. I wouldn't hesitate to kill again, given a significant threat. However, you couldn't pay me enough to shoot some 20 year old kid in Austin, Texas who's so gripped by a drug he's lost his mind and doesn't know right from wrong anymore. Like somebody said above, there are a lot of internet "tough guys" who would shoot a 70 year old lady for pointing her cane at them. Part of having the right to carry a weapon for protection is using discretion. Not everybody who commits a crime deserves to die. Killing a man is a heavy thing, and not something to be taken lightly.

I carry a single fold wallet with no pockets for money. The money just lays inside the wallet and the max I carry in there is $40 or $60 dollars. The rest is in my front shirt pocket. Kaitlynn's boyfriend asked me one day why I carried the large amount in my shirt and not in the wallet. I told him that if I am ever confronted all I have to do is toss my wallet and the 40 or 60 will fall out and hopefully the perp will just gather it up and move on. Works even better if you just carry fives and tens that way because the perp will think they are getting lots by seeing multiple pieces of paper. Most likely they will not take the time to count it right there.
