Why doesn't this ever happened to prepared individuals??

See below, a local family goes the the theater and Dad gets confronted in the parking lot by an armed individual demanding money.

What would you do in the situation if you were armed?
Give him some cash & hope for the best?
Straight up smoke him and call the meat wagon?

I guess armed people give off an aura, you never hear of these situations occuring to a prepared individual, at least not around here.

My family is not worth the money in my pocket. If I thought that alone would make him leave I'd probably give em whatever he wanted. If it escalates ill have to make another decision.

Now, if by myself you won't be getting a **** thing sent your way that isn't made of lead, in the hollow point variety.

The news just came on and there is a Beaumont Police officer and the statement was "it is not a good idea to get into a situation over simple property". Just give them what they want and hope it does not escalate. These people are just looking for money, hand it over is the best policy.

I like the motto, "Luck favors the prepared".

He is armed and has the drop on me I'm giving him the money but he needs to keep his eye on me every second afterward. Depending on my mood and how safe it would be to my family I might smoke him. It's my option and I'll never really know until it happens.

He just robbed you at gun point and is now fleeing the scene with his back to you and you are no longer in danger. How does the law read on shooting a man in the back regardless of the act, how can you claim self defense?

I have no idea what I would do past handing over my wallet...

Did he say "please" when he asked for my money?

I don't understand the comments that say they'd shoot the guy given the facts of the situation reported. It says a man stepped out and pointed a gun at his head. Unless the 51 year old victim has super quick reflexes, how can he pull out a gun and shoot the robber without being shot in the head first? Or maybe I'm missing something about some untold defensive maneuver that allows a middle-aged guy to somehow draw and fire before the much younger guy is able to simply pull the trigger on the gun?

If my life was in danger i would pull out my pistol. If it is not then i wouldnt. If someone was pointing a gun at me i would most likely feel like my life was in danger.
I agree with lameduck- a lot of internet tough guys say they will kill somebody over a few bucks... Stealing from me doesnt matter- its the pointing the gun that matters...

I always think its funny to hear these comments I would hand over the money in hopes he left. Im not endangering myself or my family any more than it allready is. My $300 isnt worth anyone getting shot over even the perp unless I feel he will shoot someone then its game one. Every situation is different and Im not wanting to live the rest of my life knowing I killed someone over a few hundred bucks regardless of the situation in a typical grab and run type of scenerio.

                        Exactly.

There are situations that using/pulling your weapon will actually cause more problems than you've already got. Good point equin.

The law in Texas reads that deadly force is an option to protect property if it is stolen during the night and there is no reasonable expectation that you can recover the property.

I wouldn't want to be the one to test the law, but it is what it is.

Of course this is not legal advice.
