I hate to post this here, but I'm hoping to find somebody who may have dealt with this before.
Our jagd, who is now a retired bloodtracker/hog dog, jumped out of the mule and took off on us three weeks ago. She was missing most of the night, and when we found her she appeared disoriented and couldn't chew anything. The next morning she was fine, although her toenails were all wore down and she wore the tartar off all her teeth (we suspect she had an armadillo or some other critter that she must have been chewing on, but no hair in her teeth). Anyways, two days later she broke out in a rash that resembled an allergic dermatitis. Red, raised bumps over her entire body, but especially the axillary and inguinal region. I gave her a benedryl, but it didn't help after another day or two, the bumps started to turn black and increase in number. We took her to our Vet and he suspected a staph infection. She had never been pruritic the whole time, but after several days on cephalexin she started to chew her paws. The skin scraping was negative, but we dipped her with Paramite anyways. She's also had an injection of triamcinalone and depo medrol. She isn't itching anymore, but the raised black bumps are covering her whole body. They're hard, like she has subcutaneous black bb's all over her. I couldn't squeeze anything out of the bumps, and they appear to be painful to her when I put any pressure on them. Our Vet is stumped by this, and I'm wondering if anybody here has ever experienced this. I think we may want to biopsy the bumps next, but if there's something less invasive that we're missing, I'd sure like to hear any ideas! Sorry for being so long-winded, but I really am desperate. Oh, and I forgot to add that she's been treated twice for erlichia. Thanks for any suggestions!
