Have you checked out the sightron sIII (s3) I don't have one myself but have heard nothing but good things about them, they are in the 1000 bucks range!

I don't have a Nightforce but I did buy my first Swarovski this year. I am blown away. I had a range session where I shot the Swaro and my Leupold Mark 4 in the same sitting. The weather was foggy/drizzly and getting late in the evening and I'm here to say, the Swaro was clearly the better glass. The Swaro was a Z3 4-12x50 and the Leupold was a Mark4 4.5-14 x 50 so they were comparable in all aspects.

Another consideration is, while the Nightforce is definitely durable, it is also HEAVY. Something to consider when you already have a heavy gun, especially if you are going to be hiking much with it.

Be sure to match the reticle to the turret, MOA/MOA or MIL/MIL. Also make sure you get a first focal plane, not second focal plane. Lots of good scopes already mentioned.

          Mike,

I will buy that Mark 4 off you... at serously reduced price though because of how inferior it is

John Burns. The guy that started Best of the West and helped put Huskemaw in front of us hunters. He's with Leupold now and his new company Graybull Precision. Here is a link to his Leupold Scope.

If you want something for "long range", then you'll want an adjustable objective - I've read more positive reviews for the adjustment on the bell versus the smaller side focus models.

I heard about Sightron scope from a varmint forum - I figured these guys ought to know. So I bought a 4-16x42mm Sightron II with an adustable objective for my .243 - fantastic long range scope. This spring I treated myself to a new .204 Tikka T3 and moved up to a Sightron II Big Sky 6-24x42mm with a dot recticle for chucks - what a scope! Not sure which ones are a grand but I thought $600+ was enough.

However, I did splurge on a Swarovski 3x9x36mm for my muzzleloader - on sale from Doug at cameralandny.com - I drool everytimme I look thru it . . .
