    String/Cable Stretch and Bow Speed

I didnt want to hi-jack the other thread but Im sensing a lot of confusion on this topic. It appears that a lot of people are convinced that the more you shoot your bow the faster it becomes. Im just wanting to test the waters and see how many really believe this way. Lets hear your debate before I say anything, does your bow gain speed the more you shoot it?

If you chrono'd a brand new bow and then shot it 5,000 times without touching either the string or cable and then chrono'd it again, which test would be faster?

your string would have to stretch by at least an inch to see a noticeable increase in speed. Your cables would also need to shrink at the same rate.

on really hot days your strings can stretch and you might shoot 1-2 FPS faster while it is hot, but when it gets colder out, they contract and it might actually slow down by 1-2 FPS. And this is real world information, not speculation.

If the string and cable stretch the same then it should stay the same. If just the string stretches then you gain draw length and can gain speed...cable stretch you lose poundage. So a trade off

Lol...the string would have to stretch allot, but no I don't think it would be noticeably faster after 5000 shots...IMO

I will say that the answer I will give is going to be coming from 5 years of log books taken from our archery shop. We Chrono'd and documented 90% of the bows that left the shop. We uesd a base line with the same exact heavy arrow and then used the customers arrow documenting draw lenght, arrow lenght and size and speed and a lot of those same guys came back later on with issues or for repairs and we would shoot them again also testing drw weight,,,, Documenting everything and over a period of time its was obvious the outcome every time

                  So what's your answer??

I say probably not a noticeable increase. But that's just a guess...

When I actually think about it it doesn't make any since for it to get faster, true the actual draw length would be longer, BUT if ur string is stretching your cables are also stretching and I believe that would make it slow down... It might not be by much bt I think it would, it always seems like my bow shoots a hair faster after I put new strings on it and I think it is because it was shooting slower with the older strings....that's just my brain storming...I could be way off, but after I replied earlier I got to thinking about it, and came up with this

Ill post my results in a little while, I never had a clue this was that much of an unknown area. Im really curious to see what the vast majority think.

Ill say this though, the basic theory for bow speed is this, projectile weight, bow poundage and draw cylce. If the projectile stays the same but you loose 6 pounds of draw weight gaining 1/4" of draw cycle whats more important ? , poundage or a 1/4" of draw lenght?

Also noting that as the sting and cable stretch the bow is no longer in tune, meaning that the cams rotation are out of alignment and not at their optimum operating setting.

With stretch there will be a longer draw length, lowering of the draw weight and slowing of the arrow.

And I've had my bow since 06 and it's been crono'ed once and that was because Rocky wanted to. Speed never blew up my skirt...

I could not agree any more, Im not a speed junkie and honestly not concerned about speed at all. My point to this is to hopefully clear up a little confusion today and not to speed up everyones bow

I think you could preach till the cows come home and people would still chase a 1-fps gain; thinking it will somehow make them miss less..
