One of my first actions following the New Year is to cancel my Iphone and all but basic cable and Internet for the house; the charges for these has exceeded the realm or reasonable.. Between the two I am now spending over $300 a month..

so an airline can do it, but a phone service provider cannot?? AT&T will win because there are still a majority of people who will continue to use their services. We(consumers) have been duped into thinking that we NEED to have streaming internet, movies, videos and everything else they offer to make our lives better. When in fact we have become so dependant on their services that now they can charge what they want because a larger number of people are not willing to let go of the convienence and status of it all.

And yeah if you are paying 200 bucks a month or more for services, then you are totally justified in wanting to receive those services. But the bigger question is do you really NEED those services?? These of course are just my personal thoughts and not an attack or judgment on anyone who utilizes them. But knowing I pay less than 200 per month for the same services on 4 phones, and sometimes enjoy the ability to find areas with no coverage and no death grip or link to a phone is more than worth it in my eyes.

Do I need it? Honestly speaking, no I don't. Do I pay for it because it want it? Yes,

Also pay for a lease each year too. Do I need that? Not really, but I want it lol.

10 years ago this was not a problem. why not use the phone as a phone, and a computer for the internet, and a DVD player for movies? there are ways to fix this.

I got a letter from Spint, their unlimited is 5G on thier network, 500M roaming per month.

I started out with Cellular one in the early 90s. They were bought out in my area by Alltel. Then Alltel was bought out by Verizon. I have no complaints and will stay with them. ATT has never been worth a dang although have gotten better in the last few yrs. T-mobile and sprint suck too. Verizon is the best on the market at present time

I just cannot understand paying more for a phone and phone services than for a car. or a 4 wheeler, or IRA, or CD or a host of other investments that will some day reward you. but hey if you got it flaunt it I spose. cause it is all about who can download a netflix movie fastest while driving!!

I ended up having to get both AT&T and Verizon for my needs...I don't have to have it, but it sure is worth it to me.

My boss told me as long as I can get on our company's intra-net for email and web-ex's and cell phone for conference calls, I can work from home, the ranch or the moon as long as I'm accessable.

To make a long story short, I was do for an upgrade and got an iphone4 w/ tethering w/ AT&T but kept losing intra-net at the ranch. You HAVE to have AT&T for cell coverage out there or you are dead in the water and didn't know what to do.(i'm pc challenged)

Finally called my game warden buddy from the ranch in a fit of frusration and he said you have to have AT&T for cell and Verizon for data as AT&T is still on the Edge system in Starr, Co and Verizon is covered there for 3G. So, I went into Rio Grande City that minute and got the verizon wi-fi doo-hicky & cancelled the extra AT&T tethering.

I'm a happy camper!! Yep, I pay more than $200 for services but I get a $150 allowance. Being able to work from deer camp is priceless.

I agree about most of the "investments" you listed... 4 wheeler and car are not investments though.

I dont think its "flaunting it" though. If I am in the blind and can access the most up to date weather map that helps a ton!

Or if Im in class and need to use my internet to download a youtube educational video then tether it to my computer then that also helps alot!

Today I can send my resume check job postings and even interview over my "phone"... If you cant you miss out.

The things that these "phones" can do now a days are crazy and very helpful in every day life...

How you got by with out it in years past is nobody else had it either and didnt expect you to.
