A well placed shot will do it to it. Looking forward to some LDPs.

You should be able to put a 45LC round in it and do some good work.

Not. A 410 is the only shotgun guage that means what it says. .410
          A 45 lc is .452

On a side note, the ballistics of a 410 slug really pretty good. Due to the smaller diameter compared to 12 guage slug.

            I believe the .44-40 will shoot out of a .410, I don't know about the .45LC.

My son has killed deer hog and Turkey s with a 410 slug its very effective. I don't like 22 Cal rifle s for deer but I still wanted light recoil for a 7 year old so I scoped an ithica single shot with rifled slugs it shoots a 2" group at 50 yrds

To the OP: A slug will do just fine in the .410 out to 50 yards on Texas sized deer. I used one from 1979-1981 when I lived in Ohio. And one will certainly take a Texas deer down out to 100 yards in 20ga. easy. But hold your shots to 50 yards or less with a smooth bore barrel due to lack of accuracy. Happy hunting to yall .

Some of the older model single shot .410 would handle .45LC loads. But not all of them. And many of today's defense pistols are chambered for .45LC/.410. I've got a 10" T/C bull barrel chambered for .45LC/.410 with a removable choke. And I've been running 250gr XTP hand loads close to .44Mag velocities from it. There are also 16" barrels for this same gun in the same chambering.

I would put her on a .223 or something close to that. .410 is ok, just thinking about accuracy.Let her reach out and touch, she may like it more and she should be able to shoulder it alot better. A .410 kicks pretty good. You asked and I won't charge/mi dos centavos.YMMV.

My brother killed his first buck with a single shot H&R .410 slug. Pretty funny when you hear the shots and go to see what he's shooting at and there's this nice eight point laying there shot in both sides of the head. Dad asked him why in the head??? And little brother says.....That's all I could see...BOTH times!!!! Got the job done!! LOL!!

The #6 shot is illegal, but the .410 Slug is the way to go.

I haven't seen .410 buckshot, but I believe that would be legal as well, just not anything above buckshot.

My dad worked at the Goodyear Proving Grounds North of San Angelo. They only allowed shotgun hunting Monday - Friday and rifles on the weekend.

As a Kid I killed many deer with a 410 slug and later on starting useing the 12 guage with buckshot. I was using a single shot, bolt action 410 with a longer barrel.

Just keep the shots real close and it will work.

As far as comparing it to a .243--the slug weighs 87-109 gr depending on manufacturer, and its velocity varies from 1680 t0 1860 fps at the muzzle. In comparison, a .243 shoots a 100-gr bullet at 2960 fps.

The slug has 770 ft-lbs of energy at the muzzle, and the .243 has about 2000 ft-lbs at the muzzle.

Add in the fact that the short fat slug sheds velocity quickly, it's easy to see it's a short-range proposition at best, with little room for aiming error on the shooter's part.

Yes, .the .410 slug will do the trick. Asl long as shots are under 35 yards.

Both my boys shot their first (doe) with a .410 slug. I tried a few different kinds of slugs before letting them take their deer. Brenneke .410 slug is by far the best. I was amazed....it shot a huge hole through a 4" thick telephone book at 30 yds.

One doe dropped and the other doe ran about 20 yards.

The boys have now graduated to a .243

I would not hesitate about using the slug for close shots. It works well. Good Luck.

Here is a pic of the slug box.
