It's not slander, it was his experience, it would also be nice to know who it was so no one else on here makes the same mistake. If he was told he would be located in areas that were scouted and deer were moving that's what I would expect. This is not what he got. I would post it and say bring it on. Can't sue for slander if it's the truth.

Sucks to hear this. I think Mudslinger is spot on. The outfitter catered to the bigger bucks($$$$$), or the most potential to bring him bigger bucks. IMO, this is a risk hunters take when using a guide. If it happened to me I would be ******, but I also see the other side of it as well. Perhaps they should have made a fuss earlier into the hunt, but then again hindsight is 20/20.

Seems to me if the outfitter wanted to sue your buddy he would have to expose himself and his hunting operation in open court thereby making the whole hunting fiasco public info, so it might be in the buddy's best interest speak with an attorney to see what his options are. Maybe a letter to the outfitter from an attorney will will help.

I just did a search for the outfitter and they got some bad reviews already.

For those prices we got an issue....outfitter needs to get right...customer is king.

IMB has a mixed bag of reviews. IMO the outfitter cannot sue for slander, and your buddy(I read the original thread) could post a negative review on every web site they advertise on. Do not use names and do not falsify facts. He could also try to get some of his money back, but that could prove a fruitless endeavor.

Maybe he could even try to get a hunt next year at a reduced price to make up for the bad deal this year. IMO keeping communications open and honest, and trying to stay non emotional could be the best route to take. Also, and not that I am defending the outfitter, more research and pre hunt information gathering could have prevented this. Seems like there are more and more bad experiences, especially for NR hunters who are hung over a barrel so to speak.

He should contact the outdoor writer that was in camp with him. Get him to write a truthful article about it.

SO sorry to hear about this. I have only used an outfitter once. Main reason is it was a new area 12 miles back in that needed horses. One thing I did was get solid references and I had it "written in the contract" that the lead guide would be the only guide that guided me. They hate this... but to me spending 5 grand I dont want a new guide out of the box like your friend experienced. Pretty typical. Ive heard these type of stories before and If you can get it written in the contract that person is bound to have to be the one to guide you. I would wait a year or two if the lead guide is not available. Just my experience. You got the leftovers. I would for sure turn the matter over to the Outfitter Organization in that state. They dont like it when you do that. But the truth is the truth...Just make sure you state the truth.

                          GOOD LUCK!!!

So, I'm guessing you got a copy of the outfitter's email and it wasn't what you were hoping for??? I would be trying to get some money back. Good luck to your bud.

Tell your buddy to try and get in touch with the others that left bad reviews. Really hard to prove slander when #1 it's true and #2 it has already happened to others, from different hunting parties.

His priorities were with the outdoor writer, exposure, and his returning customers. What he just reported was his experience good or bad and the outfitter cannot dipute those facts. He is just trying to keep his image. Do not lump all outfitters into the same as this gentleman, not all are like that. Sorry he got burned, but not all are like that. I would much rather use an outfitter that does not cater to the "big names" in the outdooor business. More likely to be down to earth and know what it takes to make people like the hunt.
IMHO a reputable outfitter wouldnt treat any customer this way
