3-5 days changing the water twice a day. Normally until the blood stops and the water starts to stay clear.

Agreed, works great on hogs too,

I have had mine in good ice for 5 days. Perfectly fine, don't skimp on the ice.

Brining would actually do that better.

                          cooler

The longest I have ever kept deer or hogs in a cooler was 10 days but I'm sure you could go even longer. The meat just needs to be completely surrounded with ice. NO WATER for me, I always keep the drain plug unscrewed so it is constantly drained. I dont take the plug off completely to keep any flies from trying to get in. I have coolers that I only use for meat, I never put fish, crabs, or anything else like that in them. maybe use them for food or beer. but nothing dirty. Always bleached after use then dried out and closed up tight.
