Putting up a ladder stand by yourself...

I'm planning on putting up a ladder stand at a new location this weekend but it looks like my buddy might be backing out on going with me. How difficult will it be to put it up by myself?

    Thanks.

Does the stand come with any long straps that wrap around tree from the platform to a lower section on the ladder? These really help make a ladder stand more safe/stable until you can the ratchet strap around the tree. Putting one up by yourself is not the greatest/safest idea in the world, but I have done it numerous times. How tall is the ladder?

I most likely would not do it...

unless you wre using some sort of lineman's belt and ropes etc.

Never used them but there is a company that makes hinged stakes that go on the bottom of your ladder. You stick em in the ground and it holds the base while you lift the stand. I use a long rope tied to a 4 wheeler thrown over a stout limb.

I just put up a 20' using my winch on my 4 wheeler and used a ratchet about half way up and keep a good bind on the ladder from behind the tree and climbed up and ratcheted around the top.

I have a portable one that I put up and take down for every hunt. It can be done, but I would make sure you have an extra ratchet strap and secure it about halfway up before climbing to secure the top. That is the only way I feel safe doing it by myself. Good luck!

Yes, it does come with some long straps that wrap around it so I should be able to secure the bottom part of the ladder to the tree before climbing up.

It is 16' to the foot platform.

Yep, alot of ladder stands have a telescoping arm to mount about midway up the ladder to the tree. This securely in place makes the whole situation alot safe when you go up to the do the top ratchet strap. Still not the safest endeavor by yourself...

I have some stakes for one of my feeders that I could use for this.....thanks for the idea.

I first put my ladder part in place and secured it to a limb. I then climbed to a spot above where the platform needed to be and tied a double pulley to a limb. Then all I had to do was hoist the platform into place and secure everything with a ratchet strap. Definitely not the easiest thing to do alone, but it can be done.

use a rope or something to hold the latters parts together while you put it up. that is wat i do when i do it by myself and it helps alot.

I do it all the time. It is a pain, but once you figure it out it is ok. My favorite way is to just climb the tree and then pull the ladder stand up to me. The other way that works is to put the bottom of the ladder against the tree and then just walk it up. I find climbing the tree is easier on me.

Do you use spikes? Do you have a brand you would recommend?
