Technically, they aren't the same however. The more correct term is just "cut".
A true barrow is cut before puberty to preserve the taste of the meat.

Cutting and marking hogs dates back a long long time. I know the old timers did it. I remember my grandpa telling stories about it. It benefited them because they didn't have to pen the hogs and feed them out. They could just catch them, cut, and
mark them and turn them loose saving money as the hogs would fatten up on their own.

I have done it on quite a few and caught the same hogs years later. A lot better table fare after the boys are gone.

when we do it we cut the nuts and bob their tail so you can pick em out later on when you wanna shoot one or when you catch em with dogs again.
