    Javelina Problem?

It seems like we are covered in Javis this year at the lease! I am not sure if it was the extra rain or what the deal is. We recently began shooting them whenever they are seen becuase they are becomming very annoying (yes I am aware you can only shoot 2 per person per yr). I dont know if it is related or not but our deer sightings have gone way down! I guess we are doing the only thing we can do to get rid of them! Is anyone else in south texas having this problem this year?

We have to deal with them nonstop near Ft. Stockton. When they show up at the feeders, go hard at it with the horns or rattle bag. Most of the time, this will run them off (and possibly bring you a pleasant surprise). I got tired of wasting bullets and arrows on them. Makes for fun in the offseason, though.

You may hate those corn theives now. But when the seasons over they are pretty fun to let the air out of.

I think they are fun to hunt, although they do scare everything . I am also in this area, and yeah we have quite a few. A suggestion to the original poster. I wouldn't come on a public forum, and state how you kill them. The State Of Texas, views them as a game animal, and you are aware of that. Might get a group or such to help with the problem. But to state what you are doing could get you in a high wind curtail, JMO.

CA - Not sure how much clearer he can be about this. He and his group are following the regs. He should be able to come on a public forum and talk about killing them just like everyone talks about killing deer. It's herd management just a different game animal.

Javi's can be annoying as they can vacuum up as much corn as a hog. There is not much else you can do to stop them except keep theie numbers under control. Their numbers will come down and they will become more nocturnal.
I beleive your not seeing as many deer right now is due to high food sources this year and excess rain more than the javi's....Once the cold weather and frost gets in the area things should change...Javi's are like deer and numbers should be controlled to managable levels and not eradicated....

Ok then there is some miscommunication. I was under the impression he was just shooting them on sight, but was aware that 2 are legal per year. Maybe you saw it in a different light, then what I did

I read that as he and his hunters are shooting more javelinas than the law allows. Knowingly breaking the law and posting it on the internet.

It's funny how different people interpret things differently. I can see where you guys are coming from but I choose to believe that he and his group are following the laws first and shooting them on sight if it's appropriate. The alternative, as you pointed out Kingfisher, would be ill advised to say the least.

We've always used a pellet gun and that seems to work well.
