Had C5-C6 done in 1999. Woke up from the surgery with pain in my arm anymore.
Wore a collar for a couple of days. Went to Euro Disney in Paris 3 weeks later. Couldn't ride any of the fun rides though.

I didn't bow hunt then but started a couple of years later. I need to back now to have scare tissue removed

My C5/C6 fusion was to correct a severely herniated disk that was herniating to the inside (towards my chest) and pushing on nerves.
They fused it using two titanium cylinders and a cage.
My recovery was 15 days of neck brace (with anti-inflammatorys and a sterioid) and limited movement..absolutely no driving. I lived in my favorite chair and DVD/VCR tapes were my best friend.
then I was to not lift anything for about 15 more days after that.. and just be generally careful of any sharp movements (whiplash etc)..
After I believe it was 60-90 days I was cleared to play softball again and resume normal activities. (edit: just informed by my wife it was closer to 3 months..)

the funkiest part was the surgery was done through the front of my neck (throat)..

                  Recovery

Everyone heals differently. I recovered rather fast. Here is the after Xray of mine. I am fused 5-6-7. 1 plate 2 rods and 8 screws. My surgeon also took bone from my hip and I just had mine done in April.

Definitely follow dr and rehab advice. It takes quite a while for a fusion to calcify. Enjoy this weekend hunt and have a speedy recovery. God bless.

Man I am in the same boat. They are going to try the shots first. But I have to wait a month before they can get me in for them. The pain is killing me. Thanks for all the info guys, I have a feeling I will be going down this road very soon.

                          Damon,

I had a neck fusion done about 18 years ago. Did the bone from my hip thing. All in all it worked out well. It was a long recovery 3-6 months, but after that I was 100% better.

definitely understand the pain... until i got some antiinflammatories... I could not sleep/sit/or lay down for about 2 weeks... literally.. i did figure 8's in my living room watching tv because it was the only way i didnt hurt..
                            no pain meds worked.
got the anti-inflammatorys, disc shrunk a bit, was a huge relief..but since it was so long till i was properly diagnosed with a herniated disk.. the damage had been done and now i have permament numbness in my left thumb, index, and middle finger as well as spots on my left arm..

I am also in the same boat. Lost alot of feeling in my arm..and use of it. That came back, then both legs became an issue. I am waiting on an MRI. I dealt with it for a long time, but it's progressively getting worse. I have trouble walking and couldn't even think about running. My mind tells my legs what to do, but they just won't go!
