New kid at the feed store....

Today I went to the feed store to pick up 4 sacks of corn, and when I got back to my feeder, realized that the new guy had loaded up my truck with Wildgame nutrition pellets.

I was 20+ miles away, so I chose to go ahead and fill my feeder.

Does anyone know if the pellets will work with my thrower, additionally, do you think the deer will prefer the pellets to the corn?

They will eat it, its late in the season for protein but it sure won't hurt'em.

Throw out some Feeder Fire with it.

The only problem that I have had with pellets is when they are not cut short enough, I had some long pieces mixed in one time and it got stuck in the chute. I switched to the little round pellets and no probs since. If you have the little round ones they should work fine, if not just make sure that there are no long pieces in there (2-3"). If you do you could always lower your spreader a bit to make room.

I have no idea with regards to your question and I my get flamed for this but...

So the question remains...are you going back to tell them of their mistake and pay the difference in any?

I would be guilt ridden if I did not make it right.

Make sure your feeder has vent holes at the top under a lid so air can circulate and condensation doesn't occur in feeder.

          Moisture + pellets = one big clump-o-mess!

            Yep ^^^

Forgot to mention that, if it gets wet it brings "Funky" to a whole new level... in a bad way.

most feed stores would not want you to drive 20 + miles back to make up a few dollors if there was any difference at all. the problem is he may have just messed up his feeder and his hunt because of their mistake.

I'm not suggesting he drive the 20 miles back, but a phone call or next time in the store...let them know. Honesty goes a long way and is greatly appreciated. The owner/manager may certainly say, "don't worry about it, our mistake", but they need to be given that opportunity. Also, if the kid is making this mistake often and there is a significant difference in cost, he could be costing the store a lot of money.

BTW...they did not mess up his hunt, he did not have to put it in his feeder.

I firmly believe a mans true character is revealed by his actions when no one is looking.

I hope it didn't appear that I was trying to cheat the feed store, as the Pennington's happen to be the land owners of my lease, and yes, I will definitely let Mr. Pennington know that I was given the wrong feed sack's. The corn was $10.50 a bag and I'm not sure what the price difference is, but I can't imagine the pellets are much more.

I have a metal "cap" on my barrel feeder, and I do not think there are any vent holes. It sounds like I have a mess on my hands.

Now I wish I'd have just driven back and swapped it for the corn....dang it.

the price of corn these days is probably more than those pellets!

Lenny...I certainly was not trying to implicate you or assault your character. Just asked a question. I figured you would do "the right thing" and did not mean to highjack the thread.

Actually, Salth20, you (or people like you) came up in our deer camp last night.

I told the guys on my lease about Texasbowhunter.com, and how much I enjoyed the SUPER people that are members of this board, but I did pause and warn them, that I tend to hate posting things because there is always "that guy" (*YOU*) who is looking for an opportunity to prove that he is "better" than everyone else.

One post, and you proved my point. I'm glad to know that my character was so easy for you to interpret.

My interpretation of you is also easy.....a total PIA.

Lenny, you could be ok with just one barrel of protein. Also with the price of corn being so high protein may be cheaper. Now I am not sure about the feed you got. However, next time your in town stop by the feed store and let the owner know what happened. Don't loose any sleep over it and drop everything...salth20 has the right idea here.
