      Broke

I'm broke, but live next to a Harbor Freight. Picked up an electric meat grinder for $20. I'm sure it's not going to last forever, but for $20, if it lasts a year or two it's worth it. I'll be putting it to the test over the next month. I'll let y'all know if it falls apart on me.

        Jerky

So far so good. I ground up the two hams from my whitetail buck this week and it worked great. Now all I gotta do is look up MC's sausage recipes.

check out alliedkenco.com. located in houston. their website can answer just about any question about making sausage, grinding meat, smoking meats and sausages. they have hundreds of recipes and all the suplies you need, plus replacement parts for all kinds of grinders. they say that if your grinding wild game, you want a grinder that is rated in horsepower not watts. stay away from the small kitchen grinders that are rated in watts. i have an old hobart grinder that i inherited from a family member that is 3/4 hp but i sware the thing weighs close to 100 lbs. and i'd bet i could shove a oak sapling through it and it would never check up. i can grind a whole deer easily in about 30 minutes without cutting it into small chunks.

I'd have to say I agree with not having a plastic housing. I just broke mine after two uses, plastic housing just ripped apart. I've been looking for a new one with a metal housing, I haven't found anything in my price range yet <$100, but it did get a text message yesterday saying the cabellas has a grinder on sale that is normally for $99 for $50, I may check it out this weekend.

My little Green Meanie. Has a heck of an appitite. It just cant seam to fill it's belly. You should see the out-put when the tail is attached for stuff-n sausage

#32 grinder and 1/2 hp at 160 rpm output makes short order of grind-n duties.

About a month ago, Gander Mountain in Tyler had their Guide Series 1.35 HP grinder on sale from $179 down to $79. I bought one and have ground up basically two deer with it so far and it does a good job.

You're right. It did break. I took it back to Harbor Freight and got my money back. Then I went to Wally World and theirs was on sale. It went down from $67 to $35. Talk about sweet! It works so much better. I'm very happy with it. And my family's very happy about the sausage.

Ill second alliedkenco in Houston. I bought a grinder there a few years ago and havnt looked back- It was a little expensive- I think I have about $600 in the grinder and some other toys but well worth it. I have probalby ground 30 deer and as many hogs and still going strong.

                          Kitchen Aid grinder.

I cube my deer meat and add a little cubed beef brisket to the pile. Grind it all up and wrap it. About 1 1/2 of my time.

this is the preferred method by Alton Brown for making smaller quantities of meat, and easier to take apart and clean up afterwards

I also have the one from Northern Tool. I am still amazed at how strong it is for the price.

Hit a home run with the in-law's Christmas generosity. They gave me a Cabala's commercial meat slicer that I promtly traded for the 1 horse commercial grinder. It will get its inaugural run this weekend when 6 or 7 of us pound out 700+ lbs of sausage. I'll let you know Monday how it performed.
