Red!! I read a study a while back on other color LED's and they tested Red, green, and blue. They shined each light at deer eating at their feeders and the deer ran away as soon as Green and Blue were shined on them. The study said Red light didn't effect them at all.

Moon light or star light is all I have ever used.

I used to use red or green until my marauder quit working on me. I use a normal mini mag lite and try to just barely turn it on. I figure the faint yellowish light is better than the super white led light out these days.

But I agree, I don't know how much it matters.

As for the comments about what people used before all the new stuff, definitely not these new BRIGHT white lights out now. That's why I use the old style bulb that us much "softer". My theory at least.

Also, I find that really only one, maybe two, weekends out of the month do I need a light at all. I prefer the moon when walking in

I use the red light on my iPhone flashlight. I don't use red for the animals, I use it for me. It helps to preserve my night vision.

I use red because it doesn't affect your night vision.

In the "Woods" (places that have trees ) I use a red IF needed. Not as much about the spooking as protecting my night vision. In Central, West, South Tx. usually no light unless needed (cloudy).
