I used to know the guy who taught the sniper school here, he was a former SWAT sniper. He knows his stuff and is a heck of a guy. I recommend this place. I've been here for quals and just to shoot my deer rifle, it's a nice place with a very nice range.

I practice my squeeze against a snap cap
but my Steyr has set triggers. at set it's 10oz. 3# without the set
my Steyr also has a muzzle brake so there's no hard recoil
but the muzzle break is LOUD

Best Of The West TV has a school in Texas every year and it includes a hunt at the end.

Gunwerks School and Best of the West are good and geared towards hunting instead of tactical. They use the custom yardage turret and windage MOA hold over. There is another one called Thompson long range that uses hold over instead of turret system.. The hold over is good for even hundred yard increments 500, 600, 700 800, but I prefer the turret system because it can accommodate for in between exact yardages like 623, 867, etc, like you would see in hunting situations. Its also more difficult to accommodate for wind with elevation hold over set up.

Owned and operated by Jim Smith, former DELTA/CAG sniper. Made famous from the blackhawk down movie (he was in the first helo that went down.) He offers a long range hunters course. I was sent to his carbine and sniper course through the military. Some of the best training I have ever received. Made the Army sniper school look like a joke. His compound is located in Jacksboro.

Would definitely recommend this one even though I have never been. God bless Chris Kyle.

There lots of places that offer long range classes. My questions is, why would you want to shoot something at 1000 yards? Life or death situations, yes, but hunting? Not meaning to jack the thread, just a question. Thanks...

I hear ya.... I love shooting at all distances. I have a lot of hunters that can't even hit an animal at 100 yards from a blind with a rest. We need more practical shooting courses that conentrate on just shooting out to maybe 300 yards and focus on various hunting situations.

Good point. I have experienced the same when guiding hunts. I was thinking about a shooting from box blind, prone and bench during course. Shooting from box blind decreases your distance without a rear rest.

I went 6 years without hunting with a rifle, I got heavy into duck hunting, and bought a mule kicking caliber rifle. This shoulder beater is the one I decided to start back rifle hunting with. I am still very efficent in killing a deer out to around 300yds but my grouping isn't where I want it. I'd like to find someone to help me break my habits. When I flinch shooting a crossbow... Yeah I've got a problem. Where, how much, and what can I expect from the school? Thanks in advance
