        something other than a buzz...

thats all I catch when I go.

always a good time, but would enjoy showing the boy an actual fish for once. Would like to see his reaction.

        I dont really care.

people told me gold or silver spoons. tried those. Nothing.

I have tried everything in my tackle boxes. I can catch plenty of fish in northern michigan, but I suck down here in texas.

but I guess reds are the most common to be fished for at calavaras.

Honestly if you want to catch some fish, the easiest ones are catfish. Go get you some cheap canned dog food and spread it around in the water, then get you some chicken liver and sewing thread. Tie the liver to the hook then cast the liver to the spot where you threw the dog food. You'll be covered in catfish in no time!

Best spots when we went for reds were at the south end of the rock levee and up the north channel near the power plant. Trolling baits down at 9-12 feet.

              Good luck to y'all.

Go straight across from the marina to the crappie wall. Throw your cans of punctured dog food in the water within casting distance. Then get some shad for bait and fish on bottom with a tight line. Fish on bro...

You can catch lots of catfish with Big Marv's punch bait.....only place that I know sells it is that convience store near Cali off 1604. I think its called the Lighthouse but not sure. Chum an area and then use Big Marv's with a #6 treble hook and use a screwdriver to push the hook into the punchbait. Or hit up Jetlag on here for some fishing advice and hotspots....he knows that lake really well.

                    ^^^^ This ^^^^

I use a paint stirrer to "punch" the treble hook in the bucket, then drag it out diagonally... and watch out, that Big Marv's will stick with ya if you get it on you.

My fav spot, come off either ramp, torn right, find the first set of power lines, then look left. There is a cove there. On the left before going into the cove, there is a rock wall. Try there. If nothing, go into the cover on the left, anchor about 20-30 feet from the shore, near the weeping willow (or the tree hanging into the water, I think that's what it is), and cast toward the shore.

Using Marv's or Shad should do the trick. Lots of 2-3 pounders there.

If all else fails, look for the birds in the trees hanging over the water, the fish love their droppings.

Never left that lake empty handed.

BTW: The boat repair place near Braunig sells MBig Marv's by the gallon. If you have any questions, Call Big Marv 830-789-4445

                    Good Luck!

That covers the cats pretty good. As far as the reds are concerned trolling in 9 to 15 foot of water with either good or silver spoons has netted us some decent reds in the past.

That Big Marv's bait should keep you all catching for a good chunk of the day.
