I'll bet if you try and draw your bow you will figure out pretty quick which muscles you need.LOL I'd think it's WAY to early and yes your abs do alot more than you may think. Man I'd hate to see you undo something at this point since you are well on your way to recovery. I've not been in your shoes, but I can imagine how you must feel with season approaching. Get well man and kill twice as many next year to catch up!!! Good luck

The brain is the most used organ/muscle when drawing/shooting your bow. Use it to decide if your ready.

          God's speed in your recovery.

Bow is still in the case. I guess since I am an olympic level shooter, I can hold off on practicing until October.

Let's see, I'm 55, have had two shoulder surgeries. 90% in the left one and 60% in the right one, four month recovery on that one. Shoulder seperations, riding bulls and bareback broncs in my younger days.

Yeah, some of us consider ourselves fortunate to be able to still draw a bow.

Must be nice to still be young and in one piece. Smart aleck.
Allaround--bull riding and bareback broncs has got to be the most wearing and tearing thing you could do to hand/arm/shoulder, not to mention back and neck, and that's before you hit the ground and the bull tries to grind you into the dirt!!!!

Glad you can still type though!

That is funny! Good luck to you and use a brace for support when you start shooting. My uncle had back surgery and says he was able to shoot within 2 weeks using a back brace.

Bobby, I know if it was me, I'd talk to my doctor (a little), and then I'd beg, borrow or steal a 40 pound bow that fit me, spin up some liteweight arrows that'll fly outta that bow and see how it felt. Then if it feels good I'd get me a bag of 75 grain two blade stingers and go huntin'. Up close.

I will figure out something. I'm on a MLD lease so technically I could rifle hunt in October. But I think I will be able to shoot sometime in October. I'm not gonna lose any sleep over it but it would be nice to be out there opening day.

Had back surgery in July, Doc and Pt said no bow shooting till mid Sept due to the amount of force placed on the lower spine thru the core muscles. I would think that direct abdominal surgery would equal no bow shooting for awhile. It takes a long time for some of the deeper internal incisions to fully heal.

Bobby, you've been through a whole lot. Take it easy for a while man. No harm in doing a cross bow this year. I have a buddy who might even loan you his - it's the PSE. If you have an AR lower I bet he would - and it would well be worth it. That is one bad mammy jammer.
