AR 15 in .223....6 position stock... you get a toy in the process as well.

I like the AR-15 suggestion as well, my son shot one last year and loved it, the adjustable stock makes it perfect for everyone

Do your kid a favor and buy a rifle he can have forever. I recommend a Thompson Encore.

A good old 243 with a good trigger and a heavy stock for even less recoil on the youngster; and a set of shooting sticks…

Good luck to you and your new hunting partner!

Get him a New England Firearms 243 single shot and put a decent scope on it...its a great, safe, accurate little gun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

X2! This is what my son shoots. Single shot bull barrel. Came with a Bushnell scope from Gander for around $300. Tack drivin little sucker with no kick. Heck I like shootin it! Spend the extra 30 or 40 bucks and stay away from the rossi. The quality isnt what it used to be.

                      I agree with the .243 or 7mm-08.

However I DO NOT recomend a small single shot. They are too light there for lots of recoil. Get him a good bolt action he will use the rest of his life. I bought a youth bolt action .243 for my step son and I love shooting that little gun. Super easy to free hand since it does not weigh much compared to my big .270

I DISAGREE...My boys 243 has almost no kick...his little NEF 223 kicks like a 22... My son has been killing deer since he was 5 with his little 223and his 243 at the ripe old age of 8 .

Get a 243 measure him just like draw length and cut the stock off to fit him and then when he gets older he can have the cut off stock put back on so he never out grows it and then can pass it down to fit his kids. This is what we did with mine but Ive got a 30-06 now so my nieces and nephew use it.
