Has anyone heard if there was something passed that allows CHL holders to carry their guns with them if their locked car while at work? I know there are several places that don’t allow you to have them in your car even if you have your CHL.

Started today. Sept. the Texas law allows you (only CHL) to keep a firearm locked in your vehicle.

Governor Rick Perry has signed Senate Bill 321 into law! This NRA-backed bill authored by state Senator Glenn Hegar (R-Katy) and state Representative Tim Kleinschmidt (R-Lexington) prohibits employers from enacting and enforcing bans on employees transporting and storing firearms in their locked, private motor vehicles while parked at work. SB 321 applies to both public and private employers, as well as all lawfully-owned firearms - not just firearms in the possession of Concealed Handgun Licensees. However, SB 321 does not authorize an employee to possess firearms on any property where such possession is prohibited by state or federal law, and the provisions of the bill do not apply to the following:

Vehicles owned or leased by the employer and used by the employee for work purposes;
School districts, open enrollment charter schools, and private schools as defined in Section 22.081, Education Code;
Property owned or controlled by a person, other than an employer, that is subject to a valid, unexpired oil, gas, or other mineral lease that contains a provision prohibiting the possession of firearms on the property; or
Property owned or leased by a chemical manufacturer or oil and gas refiner permitted by TCEQ and on which the primary business conducted is the manufacture, use, storage or transportation of hazardous, combustible, or explosive materials; however, employees at these facilities who are CHLs may store firearms (including rifles or shotguns) in their private motor vehicles in parking areas located outside of secured and restricted areas which contain the physical plant, are not open to the public and which are constantly monitored by security personnel.

Yes, my company just sent an announcement and it applies to guns and handguns. Still applies that we can't bring into builiding and new rules does not apply to our Company or rented cars.

Does your company prohibit it specifically?

If so, then yes you are.

Oh yeah and Thank You legislators for affirming one of our 2nd amendment rights. It's a shame we have to have a law enacted to exercise a right we already had.

Good deal but NEVER leave your gun in your truck unless you have a safe built into the truck to secure it. Thieves will be looking for this now and probably will increase random break-ins. Just my thoughts though.

My company has to hate this. They are so anti gun, hunting hell they are against all personal rights (unless you are a religion other than Christian, or not a white male)

here is their policy
In an effort to maintain the safety and security of our employees, visitors, and those with whom we do business, *** employees are prohibited from bringing a weapon (or other inherently dangerous instrument) on Company property and from carrying a weapon (or other inherently dangerous instrument) while engaged in Company business off the premises, regardless of any state permit to carry a weapon.

They are going to have to update it to say "unless you live in Texas and it has to stay in your car."

This makes my job safer. Most of our sites are in very bad parts of town. Not uncommon to hear gun shots near them.
