I have my tripod next to a tree and will start using the harness to get use to it. This year wil also be my first time huning from a climber and def will be wearing it for that.
someone i know fell out of a tree last year. Got his leg caught in the ladder rungs on the way down. the ladder practically skinned him from the knees down. had to go through multiple surgeries and skin graphs to cover the wounds.
I just pulled the one out I am wearing for this year is not nothing fancy but I will be seeing my kids at the end of the day, granted I may not be having kids anymore either! The way this thing fits.
Just got a two man ladder stand so I can take the kids with me. I've always worn a harness in a one man stand, but now I need to trade one of my adult harnesses for a child sized one.
Have a friend that was using a climbing stand.Less than 3 feet off the ground it slipped and he fell.He sprained his back and was laid up for a couple weeks.WEAR your harness!!I've got a couple generic ones that come with a hang on if somebody is in a pinch and can't afford one.
I was forced to use one when I hunted Kansas last year. All I can say was thank God for forcing me to wear one. 25 feet up and on a lock made me pucker. If I would not of had one no way I would have got in the stands.
Well my baby girl wanted to go stay at Mawmo's (my mom's) last night.
So I called her this morning to see how she was doing and if she was having fun. She said she had a dream.
I said, "Really?!? What was it about?"
Addy (3yr old), "You! And you fell out of a tree and got hurt and had to go to the hospital!".
She started getting a little emotional so I changed the subject pretty quick.
She hasn't been to our lease so she doesn't know that we climb trees.....
Just a little weird to say the least!
I was wanting to go set in my tree stand this Sat. mourning but now,,,,, not so sure. Lol
God's always speeking to us, we just need to know how, and when to listen.
Please be safe guys!!!! If you haven't set your stands yet, or you'll be hunting off the ground, wear your harness! I'll be honest with you.... I've never put one on and have a $300 5 pt harness setting in my hunting closet.... I can promise you, and her, this! I'll be wearing it for her sake from now on!
The Mac "Daddy" won't be falling out of a tree any time soon! God willing!
Mac, pay attention to your little girls dream. There are so many mysteries and things that we are just not able to comprehend.
I have never been afraid of falling off a tree, and do not know why people make such a big deal about it. It is the sudden stop that worries me. LOL!!!!
Mac, I agree. God sometimes talks to us in the voice of a child. I agree with you that you should wear your harness. Good decision, brother.
Me?? Well, I always fall asleep in the stand. Now that I'm older, I don't do trees and hunt on the ground from pop-ups. I respect those who will climb 20 feet to hunt. That thought alone scares me. My chair in the pop-up is less than 18 inches off the floor so I don't have far to fall.
