Ethanol is not the culprit. The demand for ethanol has not increased that much recently, and the E85 flex fuel vehicles are not outnumbering the ones that burn 10% ethanol gas already on the road. The problem is that corn is being used to settle debts with other countries. So the supply to the US consumer will be the same or decreased regardless of the amount of the crop produced.

Our corn was planted late because it was still too wet from the spring thaw and spring rains. Also there was an estimated 24,000,000 acres that never got planted due to flooding in Montana, the Dakotas, and Iowa, and Ind. Yeah it may be a bumper crop but there will prob be a shortage elsewhere.

Based on a good year our Dry land corn averages 100-105 bushel (this is what we average) and Irrigated corn averages 220 bushel (Twin rowed) then the numbers add up quickly. I hope that the shortage can be made up somewhat but I'm not expecting it.

So we can use a the minimal of 2.4 billion bushels of yield that never got planted. this is based on 100 bushel of yield.

            This.

We are still buying up last years corn, so the price won't go down until it is gone and the stores have bough this years (hopefully at a lower price). Only then will we see lower corn prices.

side note...does anyone (besides farmers with silos) buy corn in off season and store it?
if so..how? 50 gallon drums sealed?
thinking about doing this next year...
Try finding a local farmer that does not have all his acres contracted and buy it from him on the turn row....

whats the bagging cost usually run?

And alot of Nebraska is sitting under water today. Flooded early in the year and flooded now.

Water has receded now (at least for the western part of the state. Just got back from there. Platte river is back to normal. But there's a bunch of half circles instead of full circles. So at least some got planted.
