    Kansas bound!!!!

Headed to Kansas for a quick trip to set up stands and put in food plots.......or according to my wife, pick up the kids from the in-laws. She has her objective.....I have mine.
Left the house around 3 this am. Ill be headed back tomorrow. What a fun time. 9 hrs each way. So I thought I'd pass time while she is sleeping.
Should I call this a "semi live road trip"?

Ok WTH!!!! I get up here set out to hang a few stands and put out a feeder and the farmer planted corn instead of beans. No big deal right???? Right no big deal if it was 6' tall Texas corn but this stuff is TEN FREGGIN FEET TALL!!! Not complaining, just wasn't prepared for "the children of the corn" re-enactment!
After I made my way through the 10' tall corn maze, I began to notice the hit Milton lava flowing beneath my feet aka 106 degree boiling dirt with no wind.
After 3 hours, my bil & I got 1 tc and 1 feeder set up. I thought we were going to have to call 911!!!!!! Jk but it was HOT!
none the less I shall finish up in the am then head this rig towards McKinney. Can't wait till I can get back and finish up. Oh how I love Kansas. I will share tc pics as my bil sends them to me.

In November, you'll be glad it's corn instead of beans.
Of course if they harvest and then plow the stubble under before you hunt, be warned that dirt rarely attracts big bucks.
        (happened to me last year)

Weve had both where I hunt and I prefer beans. We have soybeans there this year. Seems the dang tukeys will not leave one kernel of corn on the ground or one cob untouched They dont eat the leaves of the beans that get left

            Thats wild!
Where I hunt, deer sightings around dry beans are rare, and it seems that as long as I have corn stubble, I have deer.
Prior to my new farmer, Most fields were sorta split with both, alternating year to year.
This year I have to keep track of how harvest is gonna go before I can set a date.
I'm not gonna hunt dirt again.

Maybe its just that I get tired of hearing all the dang turkeys yapping........and they seem to be more prevalent when there is a corn crop!

I just returned from South Central Kansas last night and it was friggin hot. 110-115 degrees. We saw some giants though. Hopefully we all kill big this year.

Hmmmm....I've always had better luck with wheat. There's no 10 feet tall stacks and they're not going to harvest it a month before the season starts.

I'll be in Kansas next weekend....hope to see some promising targets!

Why would you put feeders out in Kansas?

Well the new place I got was hunted by a group of guys for the last 14 years that had feeders on the place and have killed at least 1 book deer on the farm every year since they had it the biggest they shot there was a 218 year before last. I am going to put them out and see if the deer use the feeders like the land owner says they do.

Not sure about Kansas but in Iowa and Minnesota they'll walk through 3 corn fields to get to beans later in the season.

Ummmmmmm, because they are from TEXAS!!!
                              And that's what Texans do!!!!
I don't know about where everybody else hunts, but where I hunt, feeders are a waste of time. The guy I hunt with put out a feeder once. Worked great for the bird hunters. They found a covey of quail and a pocket full of pheasants everytime they walked by it.
