No its not that, the deer where im at dont have time to get there or wont compete with the hogs.
the hogs wait underneath the feeder for it to go off and clean it up in minutes.

I hate em too. The only feeder pen we have is around the protein feeder. All of our corn feeders are 14 foot Hang Em Highs.

I have to fence the pigs out in Fannin because the deer won't come to the feeders that have pigs living at them.
exact same thing i got happenin in East texas, it sucks.

Yeah, but they taste better if they can get to the corn. Feeder pens get in the way of the arrow and the video. That's mainly why I don't like them. I'd rather just buy more corn and arrows. I think if I had such a hog problem that I had to have pens, I'd consider trapping them.

Seven 3ft tall panels work good for us , overlapped about a foot with tposts at joints and in between.

If you've got to have a pen, I understand. I guess I'm just lucky that the number of hogs we have aren't such a problem. They don't come in every time or anything. And when they do, I enjoy hunting them.

We use a minimum of 12 panels 52 inches tall........

it's the cost of my feed that makes me want to keep the hogs away from them! I've got very nice expensive feeders but thats not the issue its the pigs and cows that chase my deer off non-stop

We have feeders with pens and feeders with out in South Texas..........

My two biggest bucks have come areas where there weren't any pens and they just came in checking. I think pens are good but don't think you will kill swampy off a feeder. My .02

I dont even have mine tpost down just tied together in a circle. No problems at all doing it this way. We have no cattle to deal with and I have yet to have hogs try to get in feeder pen. Again this is just around my protien feeder.

I'm headed to South Texas in a few weeks to build a pen as well. I got the go ahead from the other guys on the lease and I'm just a little worried. I want to get it right. I have been online for a few days getting as much info as I can to "get r done" the right way. I know I need 8-10 panels and 17 t-posts. 1 t-post every 8 feet. Right? Does it matter if the panel is on the inside or outside of the t-post? I will also need access to back up the truck to fill the feeder, so will the last panel only have two t-posts?

This will be the first feeder pen on our lease so its definitely a "let's see if it works" project. Hogs and cows are everywhere and I can only put a dent in the hog population like once or twice a year, due to living eleven hours away.

With the 32" panels I'd suggest running a strand of barb wire above the top of the panels........if you have cows on the property that is.
