I am a 4 time survivor Yuck is right. Gross and painful. Bactrim is your friend. I&D (Incise and Drain) is just as gross and painful. I keep a bottle of hibiclens in the batch room now and every skin cut gets a good thorough cleaning.

For yall that dont know.. MRSA = flesh eatting bacteria.

In the vet world the most comon strain we deal with is MRSpI (a pseudintermedius)although some pets do have the MRSA strain. luckly for me it is hard for us humans to get MRSpI .

All a MRSA means is that the bacteria is resistant to Oxacillin type drugs. it is not always resistant to everything out there, but there are a few strains that are only suceptible to Vancomyacin.

And on a better note, if you keep getting the infection also check your pets. They can be colonized with MRSA as well as MRSpI. Studies have shown pets and their owners passing the infection back and forth. Some got it from their pets, some gave it to them.

Good thing I am not a germaphobe!!!

Question about this! Is there any animal in particular that would be more of a carrier? My 10 year old has had 3-4 staph infections, not MRSA and my 6 year old has just gotten her 1st 1. Makes me really nervous. The ex seems to think it's always my fault, but she has had it a few times in the past. She says the pediatrician said it can come more from cats than dogs! My kids are around "barn cats" at my parents when they go visit, but they are around my ex all the time and some little rat *** house dog!!!!

They told me at the Infectous Disease Clinic that my horses were probably carriers. I didn't ask about any other animals.

Any can be carriers. If you are having recurrent, get your pets screened. They will swab the nose and see if any are carriers. If so treat them with whatever drug the culture says to and you should be fine.
