Got drawn for Unit 36 near Ruidoso. From the little research I've done, it seems to be a very good unit. Anyone ever hunted here? We are going to be giving it a shot in September. It will be my first ever muley hunt.

I had a more detailed post not sure what happend to it?
Anyway I have a few ideas. Get a USGS 7.5 minute topo of the quadrant that includes Nogal peak and we will talk. I will ask if your group can handle 5-8 mile hikes at 6500+ elevations?
rtread hunts 36 alot also so he may be a good resource as well. His brother lives in Capitan I think.

Both of us are good shape, but we live at sea level. I'm sure the elevation will take it's toll on us. We'll do what we can.

I'm taking it you drew the bow-hunt. January is your best time of year for hunting muley's in that area of the country. They hit full rut towards the end of December or early January. I've hunted 37 for 12 years and 36 is a little rougher but the trophy quality is better IMO. I use this website for my topo research and just print and laminate what I need: http://www.terraserver.com/view.asp?...&stac=10021000. Ladrones is right on with looking in the Nogal area.

You can go to the USGS website and get a full quadrant map of that area. They will ship a high quality paper version to you. Or you can go to a good quality survey/mapping supply company locally and they can print you a full-size quadrant on quality paper if they have the large plotter printer. Holmans in Albuquerque is who I use and they do have a website to make orders from.
I have specific trails and roads I want you to be able to look at. You can go to the site Steven suggested or to acme mapper 2.0 to look them up. I would head his advice on the Jan. portion of the hunt (rut). You might just use the sept portion of the hunt to get familiar with the unit a little.
