The rains in 36 have been spotty. The place I hunt (5 miles south of Capitan) has had less than two inches total all summer, none in the spring. It still looks like dead of winter according to my b-i-l.

Some of the unit is getting good rains. Some of the unit has gotten very little.

I saw a flood warning several days ago for the area of LNF NW of Capitan. Came a gully washer in one area. There's been a lot of rain west of the Sacrementos the last few weeks.....nothing grows out there even with rain!

          Unit 36

I spent the last two days in Unit 36 in two different locations. Both locations are getting some good rain. However, most water holes that I was looking for are still dry. There are a number of natural springs in one area and this is where I saw the deer, some good ones too. I was scouting for elk and saw more elk than deer.
          Happy hunting.

We are headed out early in the morning for Lincoln County....will post up some trail cam pics after I get them going. My b-i-l says he's had six inches of rain since it started, beginning to green up. The deer are poor. I'll scout for a week before I buy my QUALITY license (grrrrr). I may opt not to hunt in Sept. and hunt in November if the deer look too poor. It'll be good to get up in that cool air, anyway.

I have an idea for you. You will have to put a deposit on a key to access a gate but it will get you to a forest area that has several springs. If you have a topo map and are able to hike I will give you more detail. It may be worth checking out.
