My kids chihuahua have been on Science Diet since it was a pup and has always done very well on it. I always thought Hills, and science diet were the same thing.

I bought a golden ret. (Alex) in college and he was eating better than me. Science Diet I believe. 1990ish.

I watched a tv show one evening about how the pet business/ industry had basically turned their advetrising dollars into propaganda geared towards pulling at the emotions of the pet owners believing they are killing their pets if they arent using X food. "Don't you love your pet" garbage.

I asked my vet about it the next week. He laughed. He said its totally true. He said dogs basically need food, water, meds and exercise. Take your pic on the food.

From that day on Alex was introduced to Old Roy Dinner rounds.

He loved it from the start. He lived almost 15 years. He never had any health issues.

And I was able to afford Taco Bell again.

Doc, if a dog gets e Coli or anything else from raw meat he or she can't handle the job at my house. I don't worry about the meat I feed them, unless it is wild. They find and eat all sorts of stuff in the woods when we hunt. When I feed them wild meat I freeze it for a few weeks before I feed it. Been on chicken off and on for 3 years and haven't had a problem yet. But again I am not feeding average house dogs that never leave carpet.

Been feeding Diego (Blue Lacy) Kirkland ever since I read Mikes list about 4 yrs ago. I have been very pleased with it for the performance and the price. No more hot spots, shiny coat and less poop. He is a very active dog and has been very healthy.

I never know what to think of stuff like this. been feeding Pedigree for years. yeah, I know - terrible. but my dog eats it, and he's healthy as a horse and solid. coat looks fine.

then someone posts a list or website says Pedigree is awful. then someone else posts another website or list. then someoen says "feed'em raw" (like I could afford that!). then some else says "My dog's a vegan and eats tofu."

I never know what to make of it all!

Even though its rated low, I'm sure the dog don't know it.

I use california natural with my pup. He eats it alright. Some of the lower end foods he wont touch it. I started him off with raw foods from pets west but gave him the runs. So switched him to the california natural, no more runs. And its rated 4 star.

I have had several people tell me that raw food gives thier dog the runs. Its strange to me because I see coyote crap all the time on our farm, and it is always solid. Strange.

If you are going to feed raw then buy the meat not the pre packaged stuff. All food is the same until you put it To the test. For me it is a hard hunt Where the dogs are on the ground and put in 10 or miles hunting. Or the lab in September picking up dove then ducks in November.
