any difference b/t the long hair and short hair models??

looks like the one on Amazon for $17.23 is an older model that doesn't specify long or short, probably all the same, right?

How does it compare to the circular metal horse brush (I think it's for a horse) that you get from feed stores? Those things do a number on my lab.

It's less work than the shedding blade

I hear if it's used too much you can damage the coat.

They work as advertised, but you do have to use it regularly. I paid full retail from Petsmart a couple of years ago for one for my Yellow Lab (he's sadly since passed on), and used to carry it with me during our daily walks down an old country road near our house. I'd thoroughly brush the dog 2-3 times a week (gaps in between to give his skin a break), and leave so much hair it looked like the coyotes killed something there.......it really cut down on the volume of hair in the house and frequency that we had to vacuum.....

I brush mine whenever she starts showing hair falling off her back. I then brush her a few times and we're good for several more days.

Keep in mind that the furminator should not be used on double coated dogs, i.e. Drahthaars, poodles, etc

Yea it can cause breakage. It's just a number 2 clipper blade so it will start to cut the coat if used too much

Definitely worth it. Get them from Amazon or e-bay.
