    Scope help

I just bought a second hand browning rifle with a leupold scope

I shot it today and at 25 yards it is 8" low when I removed the cap the scope was all the way up on the adjustment knob

What do I do now? Shim the front base? Buy some new mounts? It is a browning lever action so mounts will not be easy to find around here.
I never had this happen before so I'm not sure what to do

You should be moving the scope down. Your moving the scope to be where your gun is hitting. Your gun will shoot close to the same POI every time.

First I would check to make sure mounts are correct. After that send it to leupold.

That sound like a problem with the scope. If Leupold will take it for service I'd send it to them and have it checked out. I had a Leupold once that the crosshairs actually broke loose inside the scope, so it would never hit in the same place twice. After that I switched to Nikon and never looked back.

The guys at the gun bar at Academy will bore site for free and if they know what they are doing, should be able to get you on paper @ 100yrds

Sounds like this may be the solution.

Hes shooting 8 inches low at 25 yards. 1/4 inch inriments at 100 so he needs to move POI UP 128 clicks, If hes out of up adjustment its time for long range rings.

I would think that shunning the front base while holding the rear down would raise the cross hairs. I don't think anything is wrong with the scope I screwed it down and the impact point went down. I may order another set of mounts

Mounts on backwards maybe? I don't know anything about Brownings, but I know on a Ruger I once had, with the mounts machined into the reciever, you had to have Ruger rings, and the rear ring was taller than the front to compensate for a lower mounting point on the rear of the reciever. Try switching the rings front to rear and see what happens. Just a thought.

I would order some LR rings/bases... Shimming doesnt sound like the Rock Solid base I would want.

Huh? If its 1/4"Moa, then 1 click is 1" at 25 yards. 4 clicks is an inch at 100 yards.

nope, at 25 it takes alot more clicks than 100

                            at 25 yards 1 click is 1/16"

You are correct. I don't know what I was thinking. Can we forget I said that? Talk about a brainfart! I'm too used to dialing everything in moa now days.
