Read an article in the Eldorado newspaper back in the spring that said rattlesnakes are starting to "learn" not to rattle when they feel threatened due to the wild pigs attacking them and killing them. Article said that the pigs will attack a rattlesnake when it starts to rattle, so the snakes have stopped rattling. Not saying I agree with the article but there were several wildlife biologists that shared this opinion. One more good reason to shoot every pig you see...... Hope your buddy has a speedy recovery.
There are NO Eastern Diamondbacks in East Texas, and they aren't protected in the range they do exist in. The ARE Timber Rattlesnakes in East Texas, and they are protected.
Prayers sent, had them in my garden too, may be the moisture there after, i put bird netting over tomatoe plants and them would crawl in the netting forward an thats where you would find them they cannot back out they die quickly. Caught 9 dead last year and 3 so far this year. At least you can"t get bit when they can not move. Anyway snake proofing red neck style.
I hope everything goes well with your friend!!!!!! Not to hijcak your thread but.....The two snakes in the above pics never rattled either. I walked up about 15 feet from them. I was tracking a deer that another hunter had shot back in January. I saw them laying together, took a few pics with my camera phone, then ran back to the Mule to get the .410. I shot one....the other one did not rattle at the shot. Then I found the head of the other snake and shot it. Then it rattled...not for long though. Crazy stuff!!!
