    It didnt rattle!!!

My huntin buddy Wes, and his wife were their the garden Monday afternoon at his house and a Rattlesnake bit him on the back of the leg. It didnt rattle until after it bit him. He's in the Alice Hospital right now, and they may release him tonight. Looks like he's OK just feels like crap.
Not sure if they killed it or not. Going out there after work to see and do a snake hunt in the garden if not!:

Send one up for my buddy. hopefully there wont be any lasting issues.

          Prayers up--

I've told this story before on the GS, but I was dove hunting near Fowlerton and was walking through knee-high weeds to the tank to set up for incoming birds. I looked down and there was a medium-sized rattler crawling away--20 ga removed his business end and when I dragged him out of the weeds to cut off the rattles--no rattles, just a rounded stub like the end of your pinkie. Research with the "locals" and with friends in the wildlife management community revealed it isn't that uncommon--and that it happens when they den up and are asleep--mice and rats sometime crawl into their den holes and gnaw off their rattles--

Just found out they did not kill it...Just rushed him to the hospital. Heading over with snakeboots and a shotgun in tow after awhile! Hopefully I'll have LDP's soon!

I had a rancher tell me that we where "teaching" them not to rattle, and assisting in the evolution. Makes since.............we kill all the ones that rattle, but the ones that don't and we don't see, they all live and breed.

Read an article in the Eldorado newspaper back in the spring that said rattlesnakes are starting to "learn" not to rattle when they feel threatened due to the wild pigs attacking them and killing them. Article said that the pigs will attack a rattlesnake when it starts to rattle, so the snakes have stopped rattling. Not saying I agree with the article but there were several wildlife biologists that shared this opinion. One more good reason to shoot every pig you see...... Hope your buddy has a speedy recovery.
